25 years later and the SNES game still looks, plays, and sounds great.

If nintendo wasn't so cheap to release a handheld without a backlit screen in 2001, more than 10 years after the first models with such screens were released, this would be much better.

It's worth noting that the colours don't look as terrible on the GBA screen. It was common for them to crank saturation and gamma up like this because the OG GBA screen didn't have a backlight. There are colour correction patches or try your luck with shaders, and it will look much nicer.

Outside the music, it wasn't a bad port

I grew up with the GBA version of this game and have no regrets but I slightly prefer the way the SNES version looks.

SNES clearly looks better but I prefer the bells and whistles of the GBA version.

I first played Donkey Kong Country on the Game Boy Advance and later in years I played in on the SNES. Man this is very childhood.

The detail of the path between levels being marked by banana peels in the GBA version is great. Stick the port in its original hardware and the obvious gap in graphics quality closes up pretty well too. Ultimately it’s hard to call. I like all the extra sound effects in the GBA port, but I am admittedly a little biased.

Why do the graphics look so watered down on GBA? Isn't this allegedly a "32 bit" machine?

The gba port of this game was maybe the first ever video game I ever played Mario 64 and donkey Kong 64 may have been the first but I definitely played this the most I’m a 2006 kid believe it or not my father gave me his gba sp as a kid and then later my aunt gave me an original gba with the Yoshi island port good times

Incrível que mesmo o GBA sendo mais poderoso que o snes o clássico continua sendo bem melhor. A gente percebe quando uma equipe teve amor pelo trabalho.

The remake doesn't appear that original. The intro sequence is displayed in the SNES manual, and DK, Diddy, and K. Rool's voice clips are all from Donkey Kong 64.

Not a great port.
Impressive maybe, given the hardware of the GBA, but it looks terrible in comparison. Oversaturated colours, way too bright, washed out details, pixelated, the whole screen is basically noise. The music as well was downgraded. I don't think it's a great port, especially if compared to Super Mario World, which was almost flawless.

All those additions in the gba version may sound cool on paper but was it really necessary to add in those extra stuff and was it really necessary to change stuff??? Why???
The gba version just doesn’t feel original anymore.
Also those sound effect and instruments are in many cases wrong, i don’t care how much more crystall clear they are, also i don’t like those overbrighted and changed colors, no matter how much extra details they added here & there, in fact am surprised the gba version does exist since rareware was bought by bill gates in late 2002.
