The Oakland A's and San Francisco Giants call the same region home... but often times are like, well, apples & oranges.

One thing I noticed when the Giants we’re winning those World Series 10 years ago was that obviously a bunch of people who didn’t watch baseball, or really even care a whole lot about it, became interested and fans of the giants. Those people didn’t really understand the typical heartbreak that each season seems to give fans since all they knew was success. Also saw a couple “die hard” A’s fans switch sides permanently….

Giants fan here - interesting opinion but I think to be fair you are comparing hardcore A's fans and casual Giants fans. Most of my friends and I who follow the Giants closely are not ignorant enough to think that us making the playoffs means world series rings are coming. Understanding basic history of the game makes it clear - you are lucky to see your team win it once in your lifetime. Feels like a bit of a cherry picked comparison. Nothing but respect for A's and Giants fans casual and hardcore. Bay Area>Everything

Since I'm in SoCal and a Padres fan I don't have a dog in the A's/Giants fight. But if I may throw my 2 cents in I would think the approaches the two teams have regarding payroll may have something to do about whether fans are positive or negative about their teams eventual success. I'm always amazed at how the A's consistently find themselves in the division race in August/September considering their low payroll. The Rays amaze me too. It must be hard to be optimistic about a team that has uninteresting winters while other teams sign big-time free agents or make big trades. Why get excited about a team that is going to rid itself of an up and coming player because the team won't pay the higher salaries?I know the Padres laid a big egg this year but the excitement for the team last winter and in the spring was off the charts. We had something to look forward too. I just don't see how A's fans can have their appetites whetted during the off-season which I think carries over to post-season anxiety. Plus the A's results when they make the post season hasn't been good. I know the A's have a rabid fan base but it's dwarfed by the Giants fan base. Hopefully the Howard Terminal project will come to fruition which presumably will allow the A's more flexibility with their payroll situation. The Bay Area can support two teams and hopefully the A's management can give their fans reasons to look forward to new seasons and if so I'm sure the expectations for post-season success will rise.

True, there is a hubris to the Giants fan base when the team gets in the playoffs. That said, a lot of us expect that, while we might make a deep run, it is going to be torturous to watch. We expect the team to find just about every way possible to "make things interesting", instead of closing out a game cleanly. I think that's somewhat the nature of playoff baseball, but for a team that generally doesn't score many runs in the playoffs, those nerve-wracking moments are more magnified.

The A’s are the new old Red Sox. At least the A’s don’t have Bill Buckner playing first base.

I’d rather be a Giant Fan than Athletic Supporter! 😎🧡🖤

Dodgers fans are the most entitled thinking fans of 2021

As a Giants fan, I think the over optimism comes from us being to the WS and having very good teams but never getting recognized as such. I know we all can argue that national media networks never give love to either the A's or Giants but when the Giants kept winning WS after WS they'd always count us out. I think the success the Giants got created a culture in the clubhouse that spilled into the fan base that a bunch of outcasts and misfits and non-superstars can win on the big stage. I know its a cliche but if no one else will be believe in us then we will. I can admit that none of the Giants WS teams were "The Best Team" but that's what made it special. And then this last season I never would've imagined the Giants would win the most games in the MLB and a franchise record 107 games and the NL West Division but they shocked the world and did. I did believe we could beat LA and move on but I'm glad it took 5 games and we fought as hard as we did.

Anyway love the videos Brodie. Keep it up!

P.S.
When are we getting twittermission back?🤣

Before you comment: this video is only supposed to make 1 point. And I realize this conversation can go a lot of places… but is the 1 point close to accurate? 🤷🏼‍♂️

I think the pessimism came with change in ownership. I was a kid in the 70’s and with those teams, you always thought you’d’ win it all come playoff time. Then in the late 80’s with the power house teams we had, it was the same thinking. Now, we’re just a scrappy team, and ownership fails to get us over the hump.

I think differently. I think you have diehard Giants fans and diehard A's fans. Then you fairweather fans. I think after the Giants won 3 WS they converted more fairweather fans. That doesn't mean if the A's didn't start winning those fairweather fans would change loyalty.

That pessimism you talk about the A’s fans having use to be the Giants fans pre 2010s dynasty. It’s was rough being a Giants fans for DECADES. The A’s had and still do have consistent success for a long time.

A's fans show up to watch baseball, Giants fans show up to be there and put pictures on their social media. Also there were about 17 Giants fans before 2010

I was expecting a video on the actual differences. Not a tiny perspective on just the post season. Not sure how often you go sit in the stands or tailgate, but there are lots of differences between the fan bases as a whole.

2nd gen A's fan here(Dad use to go to games at Shibe Park in the 40's and 50's!) Major difference: Giants fans watch their team in a beautiful park with 3 WS trophies in a fancy display case in the rotunda. We A's fans root for our team in a cavern that Al Davis turned into the Frankenstein's monster of baseball, wondering if we'll even have a team in a couple of years.

Brodie’s perspective towards Giants fans has only been accurate since 2010. Prior to the Giants winning the World Series in 2010, there was sense of impending doom every season at least around my family and the Giants fans that I’ve encountered in my life. And that the Giants may never win during their lifetime. Before 2010, the Giants had never won the World Series in San Francisco and the last Championship came during their New York era in 1954.

As a padres fans I learned that after 2010 we had a load of giants fans come into our city that I've never really scene prior. Around 2018 it faded more and more then at the end of 21 they came back lol that fanbase are the queens of bandwagoners
