Guy your tensioner is done, replace that and you’ll be good. Yes, it will stretch eventually but you shouldn’t get to 3.5 degrees in less than 5-6 years

I have a 2016 gen3 1.8t with 180k miles original turbo, water pump, timing, never had an issue.. 5k OCI with castrol 5w40 and liqui moly mos2 every other change.. Just did the upper timing cover and no other leaks..

I replaced all chains, guides, and both tensionors on mine 5 years ago. Just now replaced the vvt solenoid again. The dorman part came apart. I had to fish the spring from the vvt out of the hollow cam.

Stop changing the oil every 10k, and stop using tiger piss 0w-20…

5w-40 every 5k. Your engine and turbo will be very happy.

Have to keep clean oil in these things. Mine lasted 114, 000m(2017 (Volkswagen Cc Carbon) before i threw a rod through the block. User error

The best solution is PVD timing chain (Physical vapour deposition coating). These are highly wear resistant, last more than twice as long over regular chains, used by BMW and Fiat 1.3 MultiJet engines

All chains stretch. The problem is that they did not design chain length, number of teeth on gears and the amount of slack for adjustment the adjuster can take up.

All chains stretch. Best thing to keep your timing belts and tensioners in good shape is change your oil every 3k.... not 5k and certainly not 10k. Stretch can be seen on a scanner a failing tensioner cannot. If you have a tensioner fail and the chain jumps a tooth... the engine is done.

They do! We are already replacing replacements from 5-6 years ago with the “MR7” tensioners completely out.

Read owners manual it says engine oil 5w 30 or 40 for a tsi vw not the 0w 20 or 30 the Steller ships recommend

oil, oil, oil. chain likes to chop up fancy polumers in modern oils. use correct oil and change it after 10k km or 6 months.

I have a 2024 gti doing the first 2 oil changes quite early for break in
I live in Canada where it get quite cold and I’m using 0w-20 should I change to a thicker oil in the winter or is the 0w-20 best viscosity all year round ?

I wish the A5 coupe came with a Toyota 1.8 instead. Reliable and amazing looking. :(

How much does a timing chain job cost on this engine

Can we change only the tensioner? Without the chain parts?
