This did help. I was thinking that if I build more houses then settlers will move in. But I am guessing this game does not work that way. Hell I went twenty and had no pop increase at all! So I will be testing this method. Thanks.

If your houses have lots of people of marrying age, you need to build empty houses for them if you want them to move into them and have kids of their own.
You should build a communal lodge soon after you get everyone settled in wooden houses. This comes in handy when you're upgrading a wooden house to a stone house because the folks in the wooden house won't have a place to live until the upgrade is finished. Also, if you build a Town Hall, you will get visits from groups of nomads who want to join your community and if you approve, they will need a temporary place to live. Be careful of approving groups that are too large. I had built a town that was awesome until I realized that everyone in it was getting old and living alone. I had been scaling back food production for a long time because people were dying of old age. I had shut down my quarry, my mine and my trading post because there was no one left to staff it. I finally built a town hall late in the game, got two nomads the first year, nobody for 3-4 years and then 17 nomads the next year. When I approved the group of 17, they split up the remaining stockpile of food (which wasn't very much) and everyone starved to death that winter. :(

I think the school would limit your population at some point as it lengthens the time it takes for the children to come of age (from 10 to 16 I think, it really feels awkward to have babies at the age of 10 I know). So I would just disable school for some time to boast the adult population if ever I want to expand the town. Certainly, food, housing and all things that you need to keep a citizen alive are required first.

thank you for this video this really helped me out

Disabling the school for a while helps, since many adults go to school, and they become students, that will lower the population growth, just disable it for a while and boom, then you can keep it on for a while. And repeat.

I like how you place your buildings tight to each other. I'll give that a try :)
