Simple Solutions! - How To Fix Steam Game Blank Desktop Icons!

In this video, I show you how you can probably fix an issue where your Steam game shortcuts on your desktop show up as blank icons. This video was recording using Windows 10, other versions of Windows are likely very similar to fix this same issue.

t's easy go to any shortcut and "right click" --> "open with" --> "Internet Browser"
or
Go to default apps --> Choose default applications by file type --> .url --> Internet Browser

If this doesn't fix your issue and the icons are showing as a blank page (without the arrow in the bottom left) than try clicking on properties and change the location to Internet Browser. I had decided to uninstall internet explorer since I never used it or needed it, I didn't realize that steam uses it by default to get the desktop icons so when I did that it made all my steam games blank pages. Basically you just have to change one of the steam games to navigate to "Internet Browser" (it may say whatever your default browser is for it, but for me it just said "internet browser") and then it'll update all of the icons so you don't have to do them individually.

Check "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam\games" If the icons are missing this is why they are blank. Verify Integrity will put them back.. you can likely just refresh your desktop and with the icons there they will show up properly again.

Okay I just got this issue but if your on windows ten and this happens what I did to fix it this is to click properties then click open with internet browser

Nice video, while watching your video, I got an issue with Shenmue I & II, as non of the EXE have an icon. A bit more research, I found that the actual folder for all game icons is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam\games"

Updated Version, I reset my PC. Had this same issue, but I did not have the Web Document pop up at first. Make sure you have general icon as Internet Shortcut. Should be the top one I hope this helps it helped me for sure!

I had something odd happening where every Steam game I had downloaded uninstalled itself and ever after getting them all back they were still all blank pages on my desktop so thank you for saying why it was happening because I was getting more worried than I already am.

It's funny, I had reset icon cache, I had "Internet Browser" as default for .url, and a few other "fixes" that people recommended. Yet I didn't try "Validating" because I already loaded the game. Anyway, I "Validated" as recommended EVEN though the game is fine and had ALL FILES successfully validated, and THEN I tried to create the shortcut and it worked. Thankyou.

What is the folder does not appear in steam apps? Just uninstall and reinstall?
