Russian President Vladimir Putin is hosting the annual BRICS summit, which started on Tuesday, in Russia’s southwestern city Kazan.

The three-day conclave will be the largest gathering of world leaders in Russia in decades and will be held at a time when the Kremlin is locked in a war with Western-backed Ukraine.

In a major diplomatic breakthrough, the government on Monday announced that India and China have reached an agreement to resume patrolling at the remaining friction points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, where tensions have persisted since the Galwan Valley clash in 2020.

I don't like the end-of-the-'west' rhetoric. Surely, the Global South has been pushed around by the cliquish 'west', but another group emerging is not the 'end of the 'west''. Shri Jaishnakar has already addressed this point. And, Shri Sarin's point about the qualitative nature of Bharat's engagement with the 'west', which is generally of a higher level, is also very valid. Let's get away from a zero-sum worldview.
