I think there's a major problem in all video game development right now - releasing games before they're ready. Many of the complaints about video games right now are bugs or incomplete games. This applies to more than just farming games. I see it in the other genres I play.

I also see a lot of people saying this genre or that genre sucks and it's because, for people who are heavily into one genre or another, that's all they look at, so they see a lot of bad. If someone is only slightly into a genre, they're more likely to only hear about good games from recommendations or videos that point to the good. But if someone is looking for more of a certain type of game, they start diving into the deep end and thus see all the bad out there. There is a lot of bad everywhere!

It's partly why I've stopped supporting video games on crowdfunding sites and don't buy a game until after I've watched several reviews. I've been burned so many times!

For example, Fae Farm has a lot of what I want in a cozy farming game - except how fast the day is. I don't find timing or fast gameplay cozy at all. It stresses me out. So I will get back to Fae Farm after the next update because they finally slowed down time. It's all about having the option to make the game experience what you want.

Wylde Flowers has really spoiled me on what good can be done in this genre for having options. I truly hope more developers pay attention! Since there are a lot of different people who like a lot of different ways to play, they need to start making all those options available. It also makes the games accessible for those who have challenges with certain aspects. Like mini games are not something some people are able to do, so it locks them out of games. But having an alternative allows them to still enjoy the game.

I say this in the board game world, but making a game accessible will make the company more money because more people will buy it. Plain and simple. It's good business, but a lot of people fail to see that.

This was a fun video to watch! Like with any genre, the more popular it gets, the more good games but also the more bad ones we get! There's something for everyone 🤗

While I'm not a huge fan of farming games, I do like games that have farming elements in them. That being said Fae Farm would be something I would like to try.

Farming sim games wasn't really my thing before, I was the fast paced combat kind of guy, until Stardew valley happened. Then I tried other farming games and got hooked completely on the genre.
Currently playing Coral Island and would like to try Fae Farm as well! 🙂

I agree SO MUCH that devs need to quit promising their games for switch. Understand the limitations of the hardware and make the game you want to make, not the version of your game that will work on the Switch. About a week ago I saw a post where someone was asking when Pathea would make Sandrock available to play on her iPad, because it's all she has for a device. The entitlement people have to just expect any game work on whatever potato machine they have is astounding.

Thanks so much for making this video! Even though the market is for sure over-saturated with soulless cash grabs, there are still so many amazing games out there, and I'm glad you ended the video showcasing some of the best.

yeah i feel like the people who are saying farming games suck are saying that all farming games suck and that's simply not true. like you said bubbz for every ripoff of stardew valley there are the my time at games, Coral island, sakuna of rice and ruin, dinkum, sims 4 dlc, fae farm etc. why can't it be that some games are for you and some just aren't? that doesn't mean the WHOLE genre sucks.

I think part of the reason people may be hard on farming games is there have been so many coming out, which leads to oversaturation of the genre. Where previously we only had a couple so less to compare to. I would be interested in trying FaeFarm.

I’m so glad you spotlighted kynseed! That game needs way more love! And graveyard keeper is sooo good! Great video!

Hey Bubbles, great video! Definitely some bad apples in the mix but overall I love the farming sim genre. It's my favorite because of the open-ended format where the game never has to end. I also love decorating in games and most of them have a ton of decoration options for your house and farm. I would love to win a Fae Farm key because the art style is really cute and unique and it has some nice quality of life features that aren't seen in other farming games at the moment. The animals are also adorable. 💚

As a GenX gamer, I started with the earliest Harvest Moon games and have seen this genre explode over the past few years. Thank you for this thoughtful video on the history of farming games. If entry for the giveaway is still open, I would love a chance to win a Steam key for Fae Farm. It has been on my wish list since its release, and I would love to add it to my farming game collection!

for a few years I've been working on making my own farming sim game with 20+ unique and interesting romance candidates and entertaining gameplay... but I'm just one person with two jobs and no time or money to put into my passion project rn 😭 this video is inspiring me to get back to the grind and make my lil farming village real tho... 🙏

First off, I love that you're saying what everyone else is thinking when people are mindlessly defending their favorite games' bad performances even though objectively they are lacking in terms of performance or contain many bugs etc. Somebody needed to say it!
Tbh before I watched the video I thought 'No way, Miss Bubbles is now attacking the farming games too like other content creators recently :( ?' I'm happy I clicked on it anyway because my initial thought was proven wrong and I'm so thankful that you're basically taking the whole claim that 'farming games suck' and prove it wrong 😊 There are so many great games to play nowadays and even though while there are definitely some black sheeps the genre is expanding and full of fun games. I honesty have high hopes for the future of this genre as our standards and the competition within the genre are rising! Personally I think that 2024 will be a great year for farming games. Maybe even better than 2023.
(P.S. I'd love to be in the key drawing pool because I didnt have a chance to enjoy Fae Farm yet)

I actually started developing ArtStory bc I like farming games (and couple other genres I mixmatched) and the genre has stagnated for a long time. But as I get deeper into development I realize that 1 some features are a bit too expensive budget wise (I shelf them for future updates once I finished the game), and 2 there are a lot of farming gems just like you mentioned in your video.

This gave me a lot of insight, and I do hope for a better future for the genre. Farmsims are a good comfort role playing games too c:

Love seeing Coral Island getting love.. I think it deserves a lot more. It shouldn’t have come out of EA, but the devs are being transparent about their roadmap and adding what they said they would. I think they genuinely care

And Fae Farm too! I honestly love both

I wish this changed my mind but I still feel like farming games are on a decline since a majority of the recent entries are just lack luster. Even one of my most hopeful games Coral Island eventually turned out to be kind of a let down when it finally came out of early access. Sure the undersea clean up was an interesting part of the game but the farming portion was just disappointing, lot of crops pretty much have no use since most of the recipes to make foods just asks for generic categories like "vegetables" and cooking doesn't help you out much at all. The biggest issue with coral island too is that your character isn't really that connected to the town and its ppl, there are always these short cutscenes with interactions that don't involve you and you're a third person intruding on ppls moments. I could go on and on about farming games but the only hope I have left for some new life in farming games is SunnySide and if that fails too idk how the future of farming games is going to be.

Another great video Miss Bubbles! Your videos are some of my favorite go to videos when I need to know about cozy games. Thank you for this and the other videos you put out! 😀

you have enlightened me to the farming sim drama! I love ooblets so much, it's sad to think that the devs were so unprofessional.
as far as most of them being alike, it's quite ridiculous that people aren't looking to be unique as a game company anymore. I feel like if you set your games apart from the rest, you're bound to get more sales.
I am interested in playing fae farm. I do wish it wasn't so expensive tho

Yeah, I'll admit there's oversaturation of farming sims out there 😅 Even though Animal Crossing isn't exactly a farming game as a whole, it's still my favourite simulation game of all time. Great video, Bubbles!
