Peter Sprague Plays Coltrane’s “Giant Steps”

Here’s our latest Coltrane exploration from our Wise One album. It’s “Giant Steps” — Coltrane’s revolutionary harmonic discovery. He came up with this chord sequence that changes keys rapidly and is exciting to the ear. It’s also a real challenge to navigate. For our version I’ve added a section that comes around every now and then that offers a respite from the onslaught of rad chord changes. A breathing space if you will.

Man! Tripp on sax, the bright majors and his musicianship knock me out! Pretty aerobic on this piece, and we just never got enough of his sax in other composers. There was some piece last week where he was on piano. Only knowing Tripp in his teens, I cannot express how THIS is HIM!

For some reason, Opferkuch really has it, electrifying on piano here.
I lived with a jazz pianist for a while, coming home or waking up to that and forget how GREAT it was to hear guys like Opferkuch daily, lifting everybody in range from Ground Zero, there down in Spragueland.
Clean and fast, Coltrane's Freedom is a good fit for you guys down there in Swamiland. Tat tvam asi, Excellent Ones!
