I think I just realized something about the invulnerability stat: It doesn't give you a raw amount of time before you can get hit again, it adds time after the stun period before you can get hit again. A while ago, I went into 2 player mode, custom items, star only to see how long I-frames lasted, but then later, I did the same thing with triple reds, and there's a slight difference in how long the same combo can go before getting hit again by different items. I believe it came out to about a half-second difference, just like this video would indicate. Thanks -Nintendo- Shortcat!

Red / green shells let you keep a slight amount of speed I’m pretty sure. It’s minimal but (grounded, not glider ofc) bombs and blues actually bring you to a complete stop so they’re a bit worse.

The trick is, always shield yourself, hit yourself with something else, or pray to God you don't get the Daisy treatment.
Also, you can easily avoid the Blue Shell by using a sacrificial lamb, aka, the player in 2nd place behind you. This is the most cruel way, so use it carefully. You might hurt your friends and loved ones with this one.
