Exploding Seed Pods!

The yellow woodsorrel plant has very interesting seed pods.
When they are ready, the slightest touch will cause a cascading effect in which all the individual seeds in the pod will pop out, one at a time, with significant force.

I'm sooo glad I found this! I was about to spend a lot of time & money on insecticides thinking that the tiny pods/seeds were insect droppings or eggs. Anyway, I feel much better knowing that these mysteriously appearing dots are neither of the above, but only benign seeds. I'm tired of cleaning up the seeds, so I just finished pulling out all of the Yellow Wood Sorrel that was growing in the same planters of my Christmas Cactuses!! Thanks for the info!!!

Thanks for posting this! I just experienced this same phenomenon in my garden and had to come look it up. The first few ones scared the bejeesus out of me!! I hope my neighbors didn't hear me scream. . . as someone else posted thought it was fleas or some kind of insects erupting. I felt so silly when I realized they were some kind of seeds. Very cool!

Somehow these magically appeared next to my cherry tomato plant and scared the crap out of me the first time it happened. I wasn't sure if it was a weed or what but thanks for uploading this video at least I know its not dangerous.

The chronicles of Narnia: The horse and his boy, brought me here. I was searching a gorse bush, found out that they "pop", searched it on YouTube and poof! Here I am. Lol :) Even though this wasn't a gorse bush.... :/

OMG! It is sooo frustrating trying to find the ones that will pop! haha. I discovered clover seed pods while hunting impatiens seed poppers. lol.
