Sounds like you might have s case of the Sierra Blues. Lots of hikers quit the trail after completing the Sierra, but many hikers don't make it past Lake Morena or get tired of the trail at Idlewild. You're going to complete this trek.

As for fires, the land managers and for bosses are responsible for calling the situation, the PCTA just informed hikers about the trail status. I've worked with the FS to close, rebuild, and reopen trails due to fire. If the fire never reaches the trail, it's quite possible it will open once the fire is 100% contained and the closure area shrinks leaving the trail outside the containment area. But first don't go out completely until after the winter rains and snow, and sometime there will be smokes in the area the next spring that crews will jump on immediately. All the trails get inspected for burn issues and most burnt trees will fall during the next 5-7 years and block the trail or cause landlord that need maintenance. When you travel through burns with standing trees, keep your ears open for the cracking sound of a tree falling to avoid being in the wrong spot. If you have to camp in a burn area, be very careful to select a tent spot in the open where a dead tree cannot reach you and watch the weather because you can't rely on the wind remaining light the entire time you are camped there. A little common sense should keep you safe 👍

Stay strong! You'll figure your way forward around that burn zone and those bada$$ hollers are bound to ward off any wildfire demons set on messing with your PCT goals. You, Hollywood and Cece Grace got this!

Your hike won’t be taken, possibly changed. Pivot and go with the flow. I hiked out on July 4th weekend for a shakedown of my upcoming JMT hike. Hottest on record for the backcountry at 95 degrees, mosquito hell and 40 miles in 2 days in exposed mosquito heat. At 300 feet to the trailhead end, in the dark with mosquito net and headlamp on, exhausted and mostly no sustenance, I tripped and fell. Black eye, bruises and scrapes…I’m ready to start the JMT. When I fell, I could not get up for a bit. I was like a turtle upside down. It was kinda hilarious.

Between fires 500 miles away and mosquitoes here, thick right now and hot weather. 😂 carry on, no complaints. Just makes it worse

Don't give up you guys! You've made it so far, you can do it!
If there's a burn closure, count on the burn zones remaining closed; there are always hot spots, potential downed trees, etc that are hazardous to hikers. Plan on finding a hitch around Shelly Fire, as the closed area straddles the PCT. That's around Etna. Royal Fire near Truckee is a couple miles from the trail. The PCT still open. I see a road closure due to construction in Norcal, short term. No fire closures at this time in Oregon. Washington fires aren't a threat to the PCT as yet, and you won't have to worry about them until you get to Cascade Locks. Check with PCTA on closed sections and get in touch with TA's in those area to hitch around. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Thanks for the encouragement for Class of 2025.

Sounds like the heat is getting to y'all, That'll happen. Some days are just putting one foot in front of the other, even on trail. Yep, heard Hollywood. Whatever it takes to keep spirits up on down days.

As someone living in the PNW, fire season has become a shockingly common occurrence. It’s really devastating for everyone. Wildfire refugees are becoming a thing as more homes and communities are impacted. Hope you guys stay relatively unscathed with your hike!

I'm really hoping for you all that the trail reopens in the burn area and that fires don't impact your hike too much. I'm still deeply traumatized by the 2020 wildfires and smoke. I miss the summers we used to have. I guess we all have to become adaptable these days. But it sucks to have to cancel or change plans all the time in fire season. Hoping the best for you all!

Chap, If there is a closure and you get rerouted you still did the hike. Some things are out of anyone's control. Or does the fire possibly take it away. I'm not a hiker, I just enjoy watching so I am not sure how it works. But here in the West you never know where the fires will be, You just know in the summer it is gonna happen.
