Hi Jimmy! I am the Team Principal (and a driver) of Random Vandals Racing. iRacing did the operational and data review with us at Sebring earlier this year. It was great to work with the iRacing team, and we are very fortunate to have them add our livery as a factory iRacing option. I completely agree with you on the surreal aspect of having a car you race in real life now on the sim! Enjoy! Meanwhile, we head to Barber Motorsports Park tomorrow for the SRO weekend there. We will have three entries in GT4 America (AM/ProAM/Silver) and one in GT World Challenge America GT3 (PRO). All our cars are fitted with rear view cameras 😉.

Jimmy: We blur the dash in our irl car to not give away our settings
Also Jimmy: We usually use these settings for our tc

Hi Jimmy, Dario, the engineer from Cerny here.
I checked the data from our Cerny M4 GT4 at the 24h race, and we hit 283.5 km/h on the straight, which is 20 km/h faster than your speed in the sim car. I’m really looking forward to driving this car in iRacing. Since I’m only the engineer, I don’t really get to drive the real thing—I’ve only driven it to the pre-starting positions. by the way I have no idea how you can talk and drive and still do it well
Hope you’re doing well :)

Your ability to talk and race with skill at the same time always astonishes me. I remember years ago you coming into Lotus 79 races I was in. I remember you being fast but a bit wild, but man, you have improved so much. Your career now is (I believe) the most successful in sim racing content makers. You have created your own direction in life, which is about the coolest thing in the world.

DUDE!!! You used to live in a shed out back. You have come so damn far and seeing you appreciate all the things that have been made possible by you being who you are. You're a short, big bonk headed sim nerd who made it to racing for fucking real!!! That's some Hallmark movie shit. Congrats my man. Keep it up

Yeah, this is pretty cool. In GT7, I just used a GT4 BMW with your livery does the job for me lol.

From shed sim boi to racing in the real thing and having your team car in iracing. Not bad for a former shed dweller. You’ve come a long way Jimmy. Congratulations.

It's so great and refreshing to see the genuine look of happiness and joy on your face as you simply talk about the car and your experiences, and the way the sim brings back memories of real life moments in your races!

Jimmer take in the fact that only a few years ago you were driving cars for the first time in real life that you have spent 100s of hours racing them in sim. But now you’re driving a car for the first time in the sim that you have spent 100s of hours of seat time in real life…. Absolutely mental and so fun to watch your journey over the years

So happy for you, Jimmy. For every single aspect you achieved and experienced about sim racing and real life racing. So happy to have met you behind the pits at the 24h Nürburgring. Much love. <3

Awesome insight Jimmy, thanks for this! Absolutely insane to see you come full circle and go from real life back to sim, your insight on this is 2nd to none.

You confirmed what I have thought for a while of all sims though - that they're just a bit too on edge. You don't drive like that in real life, but it's the way you have to drive to be fast in a sim. I guess the big difference is pressing and holding escape vs hurting yourself and footing a very large bill, hard to avoid that no matter how realistic your sim is!!

From racing with a car virtually, to racing with a car in real life, to racing virtually with a car you race with in real life.

That's the full circle of the simracer.

I cannot remember exactly when but the iRacing Devs did update ABS a few seasons back so that it didn't impact lap time when you went into it compared to no ABS, which is why you probably didn't notice any time loss when pushing into that zone. However they did make it so that the tyres have more degradation when you go into ABS so I'm not sure how realistic that is.
