Zed, I chased hurricanes doing communications work for nearly a decade. This storm didn't seem as as they said it would be, because Florida knows how to handle a storm.... They don't rely on outside entities to manage the aftermath.

I live have lived in Central Florida for 2 1/2 years now. What I've learned about hurricanes is they are almost always never as bad as the hype. You don't realize that until you live here and experience one. For hurricane Ian in 2022 I bought a camper grill with 4 bottles of extra fuel, 2 week emergency food supply, 5 gallons of water and then filled everything i could find with water. Ended up not having power for about 8 hrs. For Milton I bought a 40 pack of water, froze half of it and used those frozen bottles to keep my perishables cold until I got power back (about 24 hrs).

Tyler, i live in Dunedin, Fl. i lost power for three days and my favorite palm tree. no other damage. inland areas got more damage than we did @ 5 miles from Honeymoon Island.
i have lived in this same house since 1974 and this was the first time i have been "concerned" about the incoming storm. We, in this particular area, are said to be the "sacred place, safe place" by the indigenous people of Florida. we seem to get many close calls, and near misses. But somehow, they ALWAYS turn, just enough, that we get missed. Thank You Native Blessings

I live in Largo near Tampa, and yeah the news was crazy at least in my opinion. My damage was limited to a crappy tree loosing a descent size branch, and no power for 4 days. My pool got a little dirty since I could not run the pump which I feel was worse than loosing the branch.
