Beloved Indie Game that JUST WON'T DIE! Warmachine is an important part of miniature wargaming history, and it looks like it's coming back better than ever, under the umbrella of Steamforged Games. Let's talk about it!

Sitting and painting Warmachine right now, this is welcome entertainment

One thing that must also be remembered is that PP is still alive and well. They're still doing lore and rules development as well as doing all the 3d printing for the US market for Steamforged. I would not be surprised to see a future merger.

I hope warmachine does well, it was a cool game with a unique ascetic. Plus I'm always happy to see anyone that isnt GW.

I have two large Warmachine legacy armies. I wasn't happy when they moved on to MKIV and left the legacy armies behind, but I appreciate they kept them in the rules and app. The community in my city was great pre-COVID, but was already shrinking with COVID practically killing it off.

Will have to see if it's still active and try to get some games in. I really want it to succeed, but am waiting to see where it goes.

PP is still around, they have just switched to being the manufacturer in the US and also the PP US design team responsible for MK4 is still involved in the Dev process.

I am so glad that my favourite faction cephalyx are back but I think I’ll still wait for them to sell the physical copies hopefully soon. but all very exciting stuff for warmachine!!

Pretty much my views on the game as well. I joined the tribe, will probably have at least a few games when there is a second faction available to print.

When I was getting back into wargaming, back in 2017, Warmachine at the time was on the menu, and I nearly went with it instead of 40k. But I think that was after its peak, and finding players was getting harder.

But now, people might be willing to take a punt, since the barrier to entry is so low.

SFG is a better place for Warmachine. I was done with the game, tried mk4 but the aesthetic they went for at the beginning wasn’t for me. Gravediggers are great come back to form, Old Umbrey is amazing and upcoming Trollkin will rock. Art direction definitely went towards what old WM was.

That said, home printing is not a model they will go for but bits and pieces to help promote the game are definitely a great idea. I can clearly see STL starter with terrain included available for Press Gangers to straight up create amazing terrain for cheap. Terrain is especially important as WM needs to break the “ugly unpainted game played on neoprene” stereotype. It needs to look great to grab attention of both players and onlookers.

I’m totally back into WM, and after couple of games I remembered just how much better the game is than other popular systems.

Hi mate! Weirdly in a very similar space with Warmachine as you are. I've always really loved it, in principle but it never seemed to have the traction it needed, it wasn't common to see the miniatures in stores, or even the rulebooks often. People seemed to be playing it but somehow I never quite found them when I had time to play ... I did grab the PC game on Steam years ago and that's pretty fun. I can see myself getting quite into this if I can find some other interested players locally.

I think it's a good time for this to arrive with trench crusade taking off. I agree with your thoughts it all sounds great

The painting comp includes warmachine mini, not just the free download.

People expected armies since that is the name of the tier that only offers bits but not complete models. One bad choice can tank a launch.
Aand I don't remember any models hitting just their store as of now, so that 50% can't promise anything about getting model stls later on.

Warmachine is awesome and has been slow growing now since your 2022 video, but hopefully it will accelerate with this news.

When it comes to releasing the files....I can't see how Trench Crusade can actually evolve and grow. They don't really seem to have a business model beyond the KS. The game is valueless to most game stores as it isn't possible to get hold of as retail product. Several I know are actively hostile toward it as a result. Existing models are already circulating wildly as stls, undercutting sales. And while 3-4 million USD SOUNDS like a lot, it is still only one third of Privateer Press' lowest reported yearly revenue in their entire history. And one seventh to one eight of PP's (and SFG's for that matter) more usual yearly revenue reports from more average years. Factory Fortress has promised a lot of printed models through Only Games as well as over 20, 000 printed hardback books. I just don't know if there are any legs there beyond the initial sprint of the kickstarter. I could be wrong, of course. We'll know more as soon as the actual models are delivered. But my gut feeling says this isn't a the way you provide long term support for a game.

Steamforged wants to support actual hobby stores. So releasing full armies for printing is never going to happen. The stuff you get in the Tribes is just a loss-leader to pull in new customers
