This video, gave me the inspiration to finally knuckle down and start my independent comic journey.
You've earned your self a subscriber and a fan, keep up the amazing work and can't wait to get my hands on your final comic!

This is exactly what I needed to hear right now. Thank you so much! It's encouraging to see that someone else who went trough formal art education, has this opinion. 🙏

I've been working on a graphic novel/comic series for about 7 years and still struggling, but watching things like these motivate me to strive forward even more to make it's existence as real as it can be, thank you!

1:30 I would recommend watching movies with excellent cinematography. Cinematography and comic panel composition are brothers. I remember reading that Greg Capullo took a lot of inspiration from cinema in one of his early interviews in the 90s.

6:40 As a comic reader I personally appreciate analog drawn/inked comics quite a bit more, the art looks better. It takes a master level digital artist to make comics that don't feel digital (cheap and lazy). Drawing comics with pen and paper may be harder, but the end result (beside a greater sense of accomplishment) are pages, aka physical original art objects you can sell. This can become an extremely lucrative secondary business for comic creators who cultivate an audience.

I love this video, dude! Thanks for keeping the community inspired! As you said, it's about moving one step closer to getting better. I'm not the best at action scenes but my comic is forcing me to get better at the visual storytelling involved with it!

Been thinking about starting a comic lately, so this was super helpful. I have so many ideas as far as the characters, but not the story yet. Maybe it’s time to think about myself and any stories I have that might be interesting.

You know what the other great part about this video is that those of us who really want to put forth the effort can connect with other people in these comment sections and pull our skills together to create an even better comic!

I've been working on two books, one issue each, for about the past 18 months. Having hit some roadblocks and regular life turmoil, I was totally derailed for several weeks until picking up a pencil again today. This video came at just the right time. Thank you, and to anyone else reading -- we CAN do it!! Keep at it. We got this.

Been working on my book PANTHEON for the last two years. I'm a one man show and right now i'm in the middle of producing issue 5 and 6. Been quite the ride and wouldn't trade this experience for the world!

you know what helps, when you do a small quick rough 3 point perspective of the scene and the blocking of the characters before you thumbnail it. now all you have to do is imagine where the camera is and the mood and tone you want to set with the panels composition and thats what you draw/thumbnail

I started with drawing seriously just a few years ago and I managed to make some comics pages I was happy with in that first year. Of course, looking back on them I see a lot of bad drawing, but I was getting through it and telling a story. I had to go over things so many times to do those first few pages - there are a lot of gaps that you only become aware of by trying to make something. But I did that, I drew seriously and doodled as well. I eventually started a "comic diary" where I would recall things and put them in four-panel sequences. Comics happens in little bursts for me - I'll do outdoor/urban sketching for months at a time, polishing those drawing skills by taking what I see and putting it in a perspective grid or stylizing it or adding some fiction - and then I'll have a few days where I work on a character or story. Last summer for ArtFight's yearly event, I decided to make comics pages and I did six of them that month, all traditional ink. It's been little steps towards the skills and style I am aiming for.

My target for this year is to make some minicomics - that format is based around US letter paper, so it's easier to work with and organize using regular office supplies. Over the holidays I made a ring binder with a mix of grid paper, drawing papers, and printed references in plastic covers, so now I have a whole "studio" that I can carry around that costs under $50.

The references are all stuff I found in Internet Archive's book collection, screenshotted and arranged into cheat sheet pages, and then printed from the local library using their free allowance. The budget can be really, really low - putting everything together into an inspirational space to do that work is what matters.

I am at the part of process where i am beyond starting it, i already did first issue. So now i am struggling with continuing it, as my perfectionism holds me back, because i want to make sure that story foundation is good. I guess i am ahead of many other people, but why i wanna say, it's better to have my problems, than struggling with starting. You all will figure it out in the process. Just let yourself do whatever.

do you have a treadmill or do you go for walks? do you write/draw while you're out somewhere? those can be helpful for art/writing blocking

I actually been working on my comic I have planned to release at least the first Volume by the end of February this year. I wanna see if I can make that deadline as much as I can. Though I might not fully make it, I can sure try.
