Today we’re visiting Chef/Owner Steve Kuan of Torafuku @torafukuyvr; a two-time Michelin recommended restaurant in Vancouver’s historic Chinatown. Coming along for our visit is Chef Katsu, Steve’s chef-instructor and early mentor! Established in 2015, Torafuku, which means “lucky tiger” in Japanese, is a casually minimalist, yet warm restaurant featuring pan-Asian share plates. The space, with its palette of wood and concrete along with an open kitchen allows diners to focus on the visually impactful and tasty dishes.

While we were eating lunch together, Chefs Steve and Katsu chatted about consistency as the key factor running a successful restaurant. How to be consistent?
✔️Hire good staff
✔️Train them well
✔️And have great suppliers who support you and your business

On the table for lunch:
🔸Brussel Sprout Salad
🔸I love Dumplings
🔸Finger Lickin’ Chicken
🔸Kickass Rice #1 with Pork Belly & Onsen Egg
And finally, the crowd favorite, the award winning Beef Noodle Soup – a sake braised, succulent beef shank in an intensely, flavorful beef broth accented with star anise, cinnamon and tangerine peel.

Be sure to check out Torafuku for yourself! #PICAchefalumni #picachef #alumnistories #chefstablebc #lifeaftergraduation #alumnispotlight #alumniinspiration #graduatesuccess #successstories #alumnisuccess #alumniachievements #torafukuyvr #campustocareer #graduatesuccess #journeytosuccess #alumnihighlight #culinaryjourney #CulinaryPassion #alumniachievements
