Another benefit to a smaller Map is that Charles is more likely to surprise attack you, making roaming waaaay more stressful even if he isn't anywhere near you. The idea alone is terrifying.

I think the protagonist may be a employee or former worker of the Charles Mining Company, or maybe a employee of a rival company. Which is why he was at the mining base.

I think that Charles was the name of the train, given that small railroads often name their engines. The mines likely got shutdown and a weird creature infested it (maybe being the reason for the mine shutting down), and found an abandoned Charles to use as a shell, likely why it can tank so much damage.

0:38 I'm glad you were able to notice this cause I was the first and was thinking how Charles could've been born or created...

He could've just been a normal engine who could've been possessed or some experiment or infusion gone wrong...just it has a strange design with no side doors or windows and two whistles like horns.

I do wonder if he might use the tracks and retract his legs when idly patrolling...and his intelligence... though it could be at primal/feral level but it's not confirmed. The egg could be that of a parasite?

I would prefer to have some weapon you can use on foot but have the ammo limited to where the stealth aspects of going into the heretic bases are present.
