How to Wire & Power your IP Security Cameras - PoE

When you purchase a security camera, it doesn’t normally come with a power source. Most cameras today are powered over Ethernet. I’ll show examples of cameras which can be powered with an adapter and one which must be powered with an adapter. Using a power injector and splitter is another way to provide a security camera with electricity. I’ll explore using a PoE unmanaged and managed switch and compare the two. I’ll demonstrate how an NVR can also be used to power your cameras.

You are extremely knowledgeable and well prepared. It is clear that you intended to “hit a home run” with this video. However, every once in a while, I had to replay certain portions because you spoke too rapidly. If you would slow down just a trifle, your video would be perfect! Thanks for posting this.

HIKVISION can go to 300m with PoE at a reduced data rate :) also here is a tip for you plug a PoE port on the NVR into a non PoE switch/router and you can see the Vlan camera on your PC when you do the setup. keep up the Video's and you are doing a good job thanks :)

Home Tech DIY videos are great. Easy to understand and to learn. I've learned more from his videos because he knows his audience "Beginners" . He keeps it simple to understand.

The other videos on youtube are fast talkers, computer geeks, and Middle East videos that don't understand their audience.

Fantastic information but please slow down and breathe, towards the end of the video I began to lose interest. Maybe I just can’t focus for more than ten minutes, at any rate, I learned a lot. Thank you.

You did not mention that PoE+ can handle 30 watts per port, instead of the 15W (works at 55V so can get more power through those tiny wires) - we even power near studio quality PTZ from PoE+ at our church. I wouldn't go with regular PoE anymore.

What kind of UPS are you using for backup power?

You could also discuss the differences between 802.3at and af and whatever else there is. I'm guessing that 12VDC is center-pin positive?
