Black women make up less than 1% of architects in the U.S., so Samantha Josaphat started her own firm to change that.

In US news and current events today, Black woman architect Samantha Josaphat spoke to NowThis News about starting her own firm with the hopes of raising the number of Black women in architecture in the U.S. There are very few Black women graduating from architecture school, portfolio and Architectural Digest in hand.
Josaphat is leading the change.

I can so relate to this right now as a black female architect would love to reach out to Samantha Josaphat .

I am a second year on my way to becoming one of the 397 black women architects in the U.S it saddens me that a lot of us give up on this so easily but I know we can keep growing and make a change ! God willing . I plan to do the same become and architect and reach my hand back and help my people come up that ladder as well! Time will tell but I’m excited for this 👏🏽❤️

She is one of the cutest individuals I've ever seen!

She is brilliant. What she says about people of color not being promoted and for them to have to work extra hard to prove themselves so true and unfortunate.

I couldn’t care less what someone’s race is that I work with. If there are specific instances of racism she or others have had, let’s hear about them, and call them out. It doesn’t help when we assume that today, in 2019, there’s a giant blanket of racism that pervades every corner of society. I measure people I work with by their merit, their actions. I don’t make assumptions about what they’ve experienced in life – If I’m curious, I’ll simply ask.

Good luck to her and everyone else does is trying to do the same thing she is doing in her field

Makes sense, hieroglyphs must have to be done by a BLACK woman who set the standard, they are too fine and stylish. Everything in ancient Egypt (building design, potery, metal work wood work) has a similar style and harmony. Black Woman IS the Mother of Creation...

Why does it matter that she is making everything to do with people more

I love articulate people. Funny, I was just thinking that when (if) I build my dream house, I want a female architect.

oh look, she identifies herself by her race creed and color because that won’t turn into racism at all. .🤦‍♂️

Don't need to say "black" word, just say the nationality or just woman. You will not say "white" when some white do this
