Riley please engineer a safety lock for when the door is open. Thinking of Oliver’s safety.

That door looks to be an accident waiting to happen. I'd add some additional layers of protection, in the form of a counterweight or some other form of redundancy, so a single point failure can't cause it to suddenly come down.

Agree with cc6861. Need a safety stop installed just in case

That door has made me nervous since it was made, and I even commented on the cable gauge and pulley diameter back then. Honestly, now that it's fixed, I still don't really trust it.

I love it when people tell me that their equipment was running great until it finally stopped. That's literally everything that ever broke ever.

Reckless Riley. Get some sort of backup fall protection. 😮

I just installed a 40’x20’ bifold door. It uses the steel columns as a track. The frame weighed 1, 600 lbs. Then we insulated and sided it. Has to be around 1.5 tons. That thing made my heart race the first time I ran it.

Industry standard is usually a worm geared reduced, rotating axle inside at the bottom, and at least 4-6 count of drums that contain 20, 000. Lb straps that lift at header. Far more redundant for safety factor than two cables.

On an industrial basis, I have been working with doors like that.
You need a redundant system to protect the operators.
It's more work/maintenance, but cheaper than paying off the relatives.

Having spent a small portion of my life around airports and hangars...that style of door is terrifying. I have witnessed 3 come down. (nobody hurt, and luckily nothing was on it's way in or out yet).

Standing close to that cable as it gets taut for the first time. That oughta set off some back hair vibes.

Yes stand in front of the new cable so if it snaps and fires outward you’re right in its path. Smart

👍👌👏 But how about a safety lock!? Please think about your wife and child being near/under this door.
Thanks in advance for consideration.
Best regards, luck, wisdom and health in particular.

These cables have a minimum radius limit. If the puley is too small ( diameter ), it will destroy the cable. Check the rated limit radius for your cable.

...or the force of the snapped cable releasing cut the pulley. Kinetic energy is 💪 strong...and can be very dangerous upon release.

Try to be more careful. Don’t want anything unpleasant to happen 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Counterbalance the door so that it is virtually weightless and will pretty much remain in place or slightly overweight it so The counterbalance will crash instead of the door. This is assuming you would use different cables for counterbalance.

Is there a bumper safety stop to keep it from crushing all the way down incase it happens again?

I don't know what it's called but it's used in elevators. It's pretty much a powerful break that's held open by the tension of the cable. If the cable snaps the break closes and stops the elevator from
falling.

Could be useful here too

Him we'll add bigger cables, adds the same size cables 😂😂😂
