Minecraft is a sandbox game launched in 2011 that is known for firing the imagination of its player base and has gone on to become the best-selling game of all time. To say Minecraft has a massive audience is an understatement, so it's a given that — if Warner Bros. places their blocks right — A Minecraft Movie could be one of the highest box-office earners of the decade.

The Minecraft movie first went into production in 2014, and a decade later, a lot has changed — with the movie, the wider entertainment landscape, and with the game itself. While there is no real story that A Minecraft Movie can pull from the game, Minecraft does have its lore that fans latch onto, and that is where things will be important for the movie to get it right. A Minecraft Movie has been a long time coming, but the highly anticipated game adaptation is coming very soon.
