I'm learning the Saturn V, and it is a pain. Gemini was a pain, but it was less painful than the Saturn V. The sheer amount of switches and buttons... Just overwhelms me

The apollo space suits were quite comfortable and very flexible. To prove their flexibility they had someone test a suit by kicking a football around.

You know, this makes me wonder what the Crew Dragon Reentry experience would be like, since literally everything is automatic😅great video!

11:00 that sounds like an awful mission to do with your community playing in mission control. That would be a very fun stream, with people changing shifts and handing off positions

I wonder how much weight savings we'd have on a modern-day Saturn V with modern tech. No need for pounds of recording equipment, three heavy computers with hand-wound memory cores, hundreds of single-purpose switches (and all of the wiring) thanks to far better ICs embedded in everything and talking over comparatively lightweight wiring. Sure, it's all going to be heavier than a Raspberry Pi due to needing to harden everything against shock and radiation, but the control systems alone would probably drop to 1% their mass...

So, I know I'm late the the party, but I just wanted to say that N9 is lucky that they can't yet simulate physical sensations, because in real life, . according to Jim Lovell himself(apollo 8 and 13), when the first stage runs out of fuel the astronauts inside are flung forward in what may be the most intense physical shock of their lives, before their seatbelts catch them, then around two seconds later, the second stage ignites, and they are thrown back into their seats with the same amount of force. And that's only the absolute worst of the strain put on the crew, Jim Lovell also said that the sideways shaking during launch was so intense he couldn't see the instrument panel.

Love this stuff. The button pushing and functional systems and procedures are so fun and immersive. Gonna buy this simulator!

While NASA is testing the SLS, N9SA is testing the Saturn V.
I hope you are having fun with all the moon stuff.

Komrade, I had a horrible dream that a few decades into the 21st Century my homeland would have a leader go completely mad, I hope this is just a nightmare. You did good job.

They had strings to hold them down on their bodies. One of Pete Conrad’s string started to cut into him. The pressure suit was the inner hull, and it was strung into them. Almost like it had an extra pressure suit. Then the body warmers were put on, then the actual suits were put on. The pressure was excessive as hell. It takes a “man” to make a trip to hold a hammer. All the Apollo astronauts complained.

COI is contingency orbit injection. In case of a failure they would separate the CSM from the launch vehicle and use the SPS to get into orbit. Of course there wouldn't be enough fuel for a TLI but they could still perform some experiments in orbit. I'm not sure if they wrote an entire back up flight plan in case that happened.

In the actual Apollo 8 mission, they put a lander test article so that the systems could handle launch like usual.
