Today, we're going to talk about Helium Escape Valves on watches, and why, statistically speaking, you don't need one. HeHeHe.

If Nick had a helium escape valve his voice would be lower.

A bad comedian told a joke to helium. He got no reaction

What did the scientist say after discovering two new isotopes of helium?
HeHe

4:25 to the end reminded me of:
- Do you know what a duvet is?
- A comforter.
- It's a blanket.
- Just a blanket. Why do guys
like you and I know what a duvet is?
Is this essential to our survival
in the hunter-gatherer sense?
No.
What are we, then?
- I dunno. Consumers.
- Right. We're consumers.
We are by-products of a lifestyle obsession.
Murder, crime, poverty.
These things don't concern me.
What concerns me are celebrity magazines,
television with 500 channels,
some guy's name on my knife.
Omega. Spyderco. Olight.
- Martha Stewart.
- F*** Martha Stewart.
She's polishing the brass on the Buck 110.
lt's all going down.
So f*** off with your escape valves
and Strinne green stripe patterns.
I say never be complete.
I say stop being perfect.
I say let's evolve.
Let the chips fall where they may.
But that's me, and I could be wrong (random jackass).

I watched this whole video, and I can't even swim.

as a diver, i never dive with my watch on, it doesn't have nearly the functionality of a specific dive computer, i am not a tech diver, but i know a fair amount of the theory behind it, and a watch really just becomes an extra bit of gear to lose, dive computers have long since replaced the need for tables and watches.

I had no need to watch this vid. The escape valve escapes me completely. But guess what! Now I know more than I knew before about how you think and feel on this subject. And not only.... I don’t think I have an escape valve. And you convinced me I don’t need one! 😋😁

You don't need a helium escape valve but you don't need a 300m diving watch either lol.... So if anything omega is mocking how much you really don't need the watch at all...

I appreciated the research you did on saturation diving, i was considering it for a while especially since im a welder. Double thumbs up 👌

I’ll never understand why helium just doesn’t escape from the screw down crown when you unscrew it. If it’s going to let water in when unscrewed, it’s going to let helium out.

but without one, how does Bond activate the dohickies on his watch?

Seems similar to all the absurdly overbuilt custom tactical knives, e.g. Mick Strider Customs, Skike, DSK, etc. Most of them will never see the use they're capable of.

My Seiko Tuna is designed to prevent Helium gas from penetrating the case, eliminating the need for an escape valve. They use an L shaped gasket (under the crystal, I believe).

I own a PO. I don't see how you could accidentally unscrew the escape valve... In the years that I have owned it that has never happened

I don’t even swim down to a 10 foot mark in a pool. So really, any dive watch is overbuilt for my needs. Yet, they are the ones that I like to wear. It’s almost like wearing a Kevlar motor cycle jacket while riding a single speed bicycle.

If I purchased items that simply covered my needs for the tool, I would be happy with only a Casio F-91W for a watch (nice watch, btw) or just an Opinel 8 for my knife.

But if I’m going to collect something, then damn it all, I’m going to collect it but good.

And yes, if that Medford Praetorian Ti comes with TWO helium escape valves, sign me up!

Great information Nick. Thanks for the video.

I believe that most watch users just want to own a watch that has the capability to perform in certain environments, even though they will never be used in that manner.

this is a pretty good video and explanation what I want to know if you can help is how and when do you regulate the use of your helium valve because when you're in the dive Bell you would obviously open it because that's your high helium environment but what happens when you get out of your diving bell and you're on the floor of the ocean do you close it before you go down and at what point coming back up do you open it and then during decompression when do you finally close it
