Contrary to the aging stereotypes, not all older adults want to life a quiet and peaceful life after 60. Many of us are continuing to work, full-or-part-time well into our 70s.

And, since so many of us are deciding to stay in the workplace, I thought that it would be useful to talk about one of the main gifts we can give our coworkers - kindness.

My guest today is Dr. Dale Atkins. Dr. Atkins is a psychologist, author and lecturer. She is also an expert in human relationships and aging - making her an excellent person to tell us about the special role that older adults can play in the workplace and at school.

Join us as we discuss the important role that older adults play in bringing kindness to work and school.

Are you still working? What special attributes do you think older adults can bring to the workplace? Let's have a chat.

I’ve left the corporate world; however, her message should apply everywhere. Great that it’s being addressed!

I love this topic. Unfortunately, we (society in general) are suffering from a loss of civility. One of my mantras is “be kind, be gracious” I think I have shared this in my comments before. This mantra serves me well especially when I feel my patience and tolerance eroding. Sometimes, I might be tired and grumpy and I don’t want it affecting my relations. Unfortunately, I was recently told by a friend/business colleague “That’s your problem, Patricia, you are too polite.” I was being considerate of someone’s time. I still feel the sting of her unsolicited feedback. When did politeness and consideration become a “problem”?

Celebration my 69th birthday today May 14th birthday, I love the lessons my age has granted me. Not in the workplace, anymore YouTube is now my workplace, I agree with Anita M the message is so important sharing it and addressing hopefully its a daily occurrence.
I do try to lead by example.

Very important to share kindness. Glad to hear this vital skill/gift is being brought to the retirement community. We serve an important role for the future generations!

Hi Margaret
I am real glad kindness is second nature to me 🥰
It’s sad that the corporate world wears down people/ sorry I don’t find that true in the corporate world... glad I was never up against it
Also, sadly, people over 35 are being pushed out and have high unemployment
Hope u cover the points I brought up
In another video

Great conversation, brought so many memories back of when I did or didn't connect, while working in the corporate world, or just being out in the world. I freelance on-sight at different companies, so get to see and feel a lot of different environments. I have to laugh a little, I think I always thought Dr. Dale Atkins was a man ;) hehe

I work at home in a totally virtual environment. It’s difficult to engage and get to know others.

Some people are habitually unavailable to contribute and exploit the kindness and generosity of the hard workers. Their excuses are as long as your arm. They don't prioritise work/study, everything else comes first and they expect you to carry them constantly. It's a strategy that works for them.

Sounds like the workplace is no better understood than it was twenty years ago. A manager's job is to show recognition. Maybe that is what our purpose is now...
