Wanna learn how to hang drywall on ceilings the easy way?

All you need are a few tools and some elbow grease, which always comes in handy :D

Steve remodels bathrooms every week and the first step, after demo, is to install the ceiling.

Often times he's by himself. So he uses a drywall lift to hang ceilings. This costs about $40 to rent, although Steve owns one.

Once the drywall is flush to the the ceiling joist you can screw it to the joist using an impact driver and drywall setter. The setter costs about $5 for a set of 4.

Make sure the drywall is square with the top plate. Then you can drill screws every 16 inches on the Xs that are on the drywall. If your joists are 24 on center you should apply a bead of liquid nail to them then attach the drywall.

Hey I just wanted to thank you guys for this simple yet excellent and helpful tip. My mom just let me know her kitchen ceiling drywall had broken and fallen down Friday night. I work at a hardware store and have never done this so I’ll be helping her situate this and give her joy again. God bless you guys! Again, thank you for this it truly means the most. She sounded so down and out and now she’ll be happy and stress free ❤

I was told that you start by placing the edge of your sheetrock against the exterior wall side, they say it is straighter than interior wall sides. Also I was told that corners cannot meet, that they must be staggered, away from each other. Other considerations are protecting electric and plumbing so as not to drill a screw through them. And also for old work to insulate/reinsulate ceiling, if needed.

He said " he likes Coarse thread screws because they run better." Coarse thread drywall screws are meant for wood studs/floor joists and fine thread are for steel stud framing! It's not preference but function. Coarse thread drywall screws will barely bite a 22 gauge steel stud IF YOU'RE LUCKY!

Well done! You can also use a plumb bob to mark location of ceiling openings on the floor and then use that floor mark to find the center on the new ceiling?

Fantastic video.

I’ve been looking forever for a video this comprehensive on drywall installation, that is also brief, to the point, and hits the main points.

The lip is to let the fan Hang 1/2 of an inch below the joist for drywall

“I always use 5/8 on the ceiling because it stays flatter...” You use 5/8 on the ceiling because it’s fire code. Good video. I’m surprised you didn’t know that.

a collagated tool is very expensive but so is the lift. I am also doing some garage weathering of a water damaged ceiling and need to decide how much to spend on tools.-I have the sheetrock and all the building materials. but my electric screwdriver is the only tool I have!

I only wish we had that contraption to help! That makes it soooo much easier! I wholeheartedly disagree with the vent fan portion though. Per the manufacturers specifications (Broan for example), you leave it 1/2" below stud so it sits flush with 1/2" drywall and then you can add the outer faceplate onto it.
