_____________

Lordstown Motors is one of a number of electric vehicle startups promising to bring a brand-new electric pickup truck to market in the near future.

It is also one of a number of companies in the automotive and clean energy sector executing what's known as a reverse merger in order to get access to the stock market.

But except for a few extremely short videos on its YouTube channel, an extremely bizarre launch event earlier this year -- and a trip to the White House last week, we've seen very little of the Lordstown Endurance.

What's more, we've not seen any news outlets -- large or small - get close to the vehicle. And that means we've got some questions that we feel need to be answered.

We want every new electric startup to succeed, but in order for that to happen, there are certain things that we -- and the industry as a whole -- expect to see.

Here are our concerns - and how we hope Lordstown proves us wrong.

And to Lordstown? Let's talk. We'd love to see this truck and give you a chance to show us how awesome it is!

Nikki: You, your team, Transport Evolved, and your content is an absolute gem. Period.

During this exciting times of revolution and disruption, there are a lot of noisy and distracting cheerleaders following the industry. I tend to ignore them. What I do NOT ignore are clear, fact-driven, objectively neutral, high-value content channels such as yours and two or three other other channels.

Thank you for your high quality and high-class production efforts. I deeply appreciate what you are doing.

All the best -

The truck was here in Sacramento a couple of weeks ago. Though their PR team did everything to make sure I don't get to see it.

I threw caution to the wind and ordered 5 trucks for my fleet. I also received a box of steaks and a University Diploma.

On another hand, I spent more time with Byton prototypes than with my own family :-) and even visited their factory in China and look what happened!

They have manufacturing set up and GM support with a good team around them. They have a decent shot.

The “red tape” of IPOs is meant to ensure there is more scrutiny on the promises made in a prospectus. The avoidance of this scrutiny means they are long shots trying to ride the coat tails of exuberance for similar companies AND they can’t convince the banks and investment houses to put money in directly. They are rushing to get in to production.

Lots of new car makers have come and gone over the years. Why should EV production be any different?

This careful treatment led me to subscribe. A missing factor is a lean manufacturing analysis. Any new company starting up in an established industry must begin with a hard lean analysis - count the parts and operations and knock them down by good design. For a comparison that helps put Lordstown in context, see Sandy Munro’s analysis of the economics of the Tesla cybertruck. I have been doing lean and six sigma analyses for a long time, but not for automotive. I was surprised by Sandy’s analysis of the cost of a paint shop ($250M) and pleased by his explanation of the connection between the hard stainless steel material and flat plane shapes of the cybertruck and the impact on cost of tooling. Lordstown’s truck seems to have been designed by regular old GM guys. GM had the highest hours of assembly and parts count for many years after Toyota and the MIT book on lean. Then it went bankrupt, remember? In my opinion, Lordstown Motors looks like a political move by GM to polish its reputation after it shut down the plant, by funding this startup in the same community, coupled with some clever operation by executives and the POTUS . I hope it succeeds, but I’m not impressed with its product.

Why would anyone need to prove you wrong? The company is a start up and They don’t seem to go by traditional big auto rules .. I say let’s wait and see you have nothing to lose..

Hello Nikki and the Team,
Yet another excellent presentation.
The soft lamp background set is muted and excellent for this time.

Let me get into my Lordstown truck because I need to buy some Nikola hydrogen, before I have my blood tested at Theranos.

👍🏼 best video I’ve ever seen on this channel.
This channel has evolved into a educated, cautious, reliable resource. I once saw this as the channel of hype. That’s no longer possible. This is the most complete presentation of the Lordstown/Workhorse story to date.
Brilliant research and detailed presentation.
Love the way you dismissed Nikola, so appropriate.

🚩 Obviously Ohio is a mandatory state to win the electoral college in just a few weeks. lordstown is based in northeast Ohio which a historic purple part of Ohio.

Good luck to Lordstown if they can actually make it - they’re already steps ahead of Nikola. Shame if they can’t.

I’m a small time investor but I’m in on Lordstown. I’m slowly trying to acquire 100+ shares. I buy whenever the price dips. I believe in their business model and long term viability.

I worked in lordstown for 6 months in the ohio commerce center just down the road from the plant, they have 200 acres where they are builing a massive factory building right near the main plant, this place is set-up well for manufacturing, they have great railroad access already in place, they still have new vehicles going in and out by train and semi-truck. I will say dont count this place out someone is pouring a bunch of money into this place

I used to live in North Jackson, Ohio, which was about 15 minutes from Lordstown. I worked across the street from the Fisher Body plant.

It's a tough game. Hopefully Lordstown can get the cash needed to make it.
As a WI guy, I do worry about the longevity of the hub-mounted motors.

Old Elementary playground chant - "phoney bologna". At 74, the "taunt" again fills my mind. I wonder why. Nice report. Thanks for (bravely) sharing...
