Another enormous Samuel L. Bronston historical spectacle with big stars and epochal Euro production values, directed by the perennially underrated Anthony Mann, fresh from his being fired from Spartacus.
Hearing the late Larry Cohen, who I'm a fan of, talk about one of my favorite films and one of the best epic films ever made is just plain awesome! RIP Larco.

Bronston and Mann also made THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE (again with Sophia), which was a big bomb at the time but has its admirers today. (I'd like to see it in a big cinema!)

One of the GREATEST films ever! I long to see something like this in modern film....sad they can't even come close now. They are all so synthetic looking with their over use of CGI

This film is blessed with what is probably Miklos Rozsa's finest music score.

I just uploaded a re-issue trailer like this one (ca 1966) that has slightly different edits.

Heston was not a bad actor, but he had a limited range and was fond of odd, over-thought acting choices (like having the Mexican police officer in Touch of Evil speak with an American accent because he was educated in the US . . . even when speaking Spanish).

I think the movie has a few flaws, but is great to watch nonetheless. This movie was one of my favourites as a child because I have the same name as the main character ;)

Ugh, Larry Cohen is to TFH what Gene Shalit is to famous critics...just dreadful.
