Chris Long reacts to the Minnesota Vikings victory over the Arizona Cardinals and their momentum heading into the latter stages of the 2024 NFL season. Sam Darnold has been playing very well, connecting with Jordan Addison and Justin Jefferson, and Kevin O'Connell has been directing the offense spectacularly. Even the defense is a stonewall. Jonathan Greenard is wrecking QBs and Brian Flores is a blitzing menace. The Minnesota Vikings will be a very difficult team come playoff time.

SKOL - one of the only channels I see consistently giving the Vikings their flowers

Love how you described the vibe the Vikings have. Not a juggernaut, but something special in the culture. And what's going on?? As a lifelong Minnesota sports fan, the Vikings, Timberwolves and Wild are all winning. All three have good coaches. Please let these good men stick around through the valleys that may come.

Chris - I love what you said towards the end of this clip about not boiling players down. Only exception I'd propose would be wide receivers that Mike Tomlin ejects.

I feel like Greenard has a clutch gene in him. When it comes down to the last drive of the game he comes up huge with sacks/disruptions. It feels like 50% of his sacks have been in crunch time where the game is on the line and the defense is on the field. To be fair, I have no stats/info to back this, just what it feels like as a Vikings fan observing the games. And on earlier possessions he doesn't just go for the sack. He is very smart about recognizing plays and will pull off his pass rush to go toward a run/screen/quick out. I was worried when we lost Hunter, but Greenard seems more an all around player on this team because he can cover and is so versatile, whereas Hunter was a pure pass rusher. And Cashman is super smart at recognizing plays. I wasn't real aware of the impact he had until he missed some time, and then it was glaringly obvious. Plus Van Ginkler is a beast at both pass rush and coverage . Loving all these additions by Kwesi!

Watch for recent addition former 1st round LB Jamin Davis - just added to the Vikes and Flores put him in early for a few snaps vs the Cards. I've never seen Flores put a new guy straight in. I think he'll just about be starting this week, given that Pace is on IR. Davis is big 6'4" and 234 and runs in the 4.4s.
He only played 4 defensive snaps last week, so I'm looking to see whether that gets to 20 or more this week. He could add a new dimension to this ILB group heading into the playoffs.

As a lifetime Viks fan (since 1975) let me give my observations. Really liking Darnold and seeing him more comfortable and growing as a player. OL is pretty decent for the most part. keeping us in games for sure. Awesome receiving group. Losing some confidence in Jones because of ball security. As a result would like to see more of Akers in the red zone unless using Jones as a receiver. My biggest concern is the latest trend of the offense starting the games so slow. Pretty much non existent in the first half. This will not work against better teams come playoff time. I like how Detroit keeps their foot on the gas but the Viks let teams hang around all game making it close in the end. Dont want to end up like we did in 22.

KOC just won his 30th game (30-16). 24 of the Ws have been 1 score games. He is 24-9 in 1 score games. He looks like he is going to be a good one and he is such a positive and genuinely good dude.

You can definitely tell during the locker room speeches and behind the scenes videos that this Vikings culture is special. KOC has completely turned this franchise around, and now it's a place guys want to go. We're going to head into 2025 with Cousins' contract finally off the books, and nearly $80 million in cap space. Things are definitely looking up.

Interesting contrast - was Sam in a must have it drive with 3 mins and 1 time out including a 4th and 7 makes the drive. Kyler with 1:13 and 3 time outs needing only a FG can't do it.
Sam made the same got to have it drive last week at the Bears.
He also made a got to have it scoring drive late in the Packers game to extend the Vikes to a 2 score lead late.
Sam also made a late drive against the 49ers in week 3 two re-set a two score lead, but he did that with Nailor, Oliver and Powell, because Jefferson and Addison were both out and Hockenson was still on IR.
These high pressure drives by Sam are not flukes.
He played one drive in pre-season - against the full Raiders starting D, with no Addison, Jefferson or TJ - drove the field but did not convert a 1st and goal. That was his total pre-season.
Ten of twelve games later with QB ratings over 100...

SKOL to the Vikes. They had at least 7 new starters that weren’t with the team last year.
Coaches must be really good Tetris players cause they found players that just fit together.

It's like we(the vikes) have sids toys while every other top team is playing with Andy's best Toys.
