just got a new front loader (LG) 2 months ago. I've done about 10 loads of laundry so far. When finished, I always wipe out the gaskets and glass thoroughly, then leave the door wide open to dry (deterg drawer, too). Found a little mold under the gasket yesterday. Pissed me off because I've been doing everything exactly as directed, but neither the washer nor my clothes smell...yet.

Why do you have to wash a washer? Never had to years ago?

I also run an empty load with vinegar to keep it clean.

Having to clean out the machine monthly negates any savings from buying the machine. 😜

The best answer to this issue is to add, with every load, a solution with an enzyme (producing bacterial cultures) and biodegradable surfactants (I add this solution to the fabric softener tray). For my front load washer, this has done a fantastic job at eliminating odors. And as a bonus, it freshens clothes too.

Stop using liquid detergent....Buy powdered....trust me it works...The liquid is the culprit!!!

Be careful if you have a septic system - that bleach suggestion might just kill the bacteria in your system that you need to break down the bio-solids going into it.  Then you will have a clean machine, and a septic system needing massive repairs.  The other suggestions are fine, and keep my machine clean for my septic system.

The old washers NEVER had this problem! EVER!!
However, being PC and "environmentally sensitive" are currently more important than actually having clean fresh smelling clothes. Go figure. :-(
