Dr. Delahooke's take on ODD (oppositional defiant disorder)

I’ve written extensively about concerns with diagnoses, such as oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) & conduct disorders. These are disorder based stigmatizing labels that should not be used at all in my opinion, but especially not in young children, where they represent a primary deficit in self regulation. We know that self-regulation develops through responsive care, and this information has not yet penetrated into the fields that serve young children especially ones that are vulnerable. Please explain how treatment would differ? Because no matter what you call it- it is living hell for parents.

Why only under the age of 5? Any aged child can have nervous system dysregulation leading to an ODD diagnosis.

I dont have a child with ODD but have a friend that does and to be honest she doesnt set boundaries with the kids and father - same relationship dynamics ( the father is narcissistic as well) so how do you not know that this is the cause too (not all children but the few)

ODD is a symptom of some genetic disorders, like XYY (Jacobs syndrome). It’s not anyone’s fault. I’m okay with ODD. It has value, in some respects.

The more CPS tightens the noose on parent's throats the more alphabet disorders that doctors come up with in order to get kick backs from insurances. Lack of patients? Create some!

Parents are the problem in one way or another. Diagnose the PARENTS and treat THEM so that they can do parenting in a healthy way.

So what do you believe is wrong in their nervous system. Al very well to say you think this but how or what would you diagnose these things as instead? Its a fact the child is Oppositional and we know its caused by damage to the brain inutero likely caused by the mothers drug and alcohol use. Hes basically a drug baby with all that entails
