Attention deficits are components of many common and costly disorders affecting civilian and military populations alike, including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), and depression. The existing tools for assessing attention deficits may be improved upon, as they rely on subjective reports that may incur bias or assessment in settings that lack appropriate ecological validity. Improving diagnostic systems, such as through the use of XR, may aid in more precise characterization of individual attentional strengths and impairments, thereby creating the opportunity to better meet patients’ neurological and mental health needs.
