Been very pleased with Simply Piano... been playing since Thanksgiving and I've got about 12 chords down and it impresses me that at almost 40, I can play a little bit. Never going to do it professionally, but yeah I can now walk up to a piano and play a few little jingles. All I wanted :)

My two boys started with Simply Piano four years ago and it was amazing to get them started! They’re 9 and 10 years old now and have a teacher! The apps are a great start!

I've been using Flowkey and the ability to select whichever measure I want to practice is extremely valuable and a big time-saver. If you're having difficulty with a particular measure or set of measures but have no difficulty with the others, it doesn't make sense to have to repeat all the other measures every single time just to practice the section that you have trouble with.

If Flowkey and Simply Piano had a baby it would be the perfect learning app.

I need an app really for beginners.
An app that startels teaching what is a cord a minor or a major cord, an octave, etc.
An app that starts with the terminology of musical instruments execution.
That's really would be an app for beginners.

Jeremy, thank you for this video. I am a never played the piano in my life guy that has always had a desire to learn but, never had the time to do so. I just retired and have purchased (not yet taken delivery of) a Kawai CA49 and am now determined to learn. Ironically, it seemed to me to be easier to review and decide on which beginner's piano I wanted to buy than it has been to decide what to use to learn to play. Your video has given me a starting point from which to experiment and decide.

I used flowKey for 7 days from scratch with no background knowledge. It moves very quickly to.the next level with less repetition like SimplyPiano. I ended up giving up as my hands need more repetition to train the muscles. When I tried Simply Piano, it's 3 weeks now and I have grown so much and get my muscles memory leveled up now. Simply Piano as well allows you to have 5 members of the family (Me and my 2 daughters 5yrs & 12yrs) learning at different level. And yes, the family is moving on.

Unfortunately, SimplyPiano does not allow you to change the speed and my 5 years old sometimes gets very discouraged because of seeing so meny red in her play. If only they can change this. Also, there are times they use musics and bass that are like hard rock, that I personally hate, and I just rush to play the part to skip the, which is not helpful. If only they can allow to turn that off. Also, Simply Piano does not have the video of a pianist showing how my hands should move, like flowKey, and sometimes you just do the wrong approach and learn mistakes way longer before you can correct it. If only they had the piano teacher's hands like flowKey, then it would be the perfect app!

Hi Jeremy, truly appreciate your video! Which one would u recommend for a very young kid at beginner level, who already has a personal teacher, but would like to increase interactivity and engagement with the piano at home, almost like a game. Thank you!

Great video and thank you! We've used at home both SP & Flowkey. My daughter started SP at 8, during lockdown, and after 3 years is still studying piano with a teacher (I'd add that after 1 year the app, which was really fun and worth buying it, is not enough just by itself; the teacher later on had to focus on her posture and technique). I had musical background om assical guitar and liked the songs, mostly on Flowkey (SP had much less contents on Android). A quite severe limit I found for not English speaking learners was the language: kids cannot benefit from the courses unless they can understand them.

Excellent review! Thank you so much! I have been trying to teach an 8-year-old attached to her device and found concentration wanes. This review allowed me to choose her learning guide (at home with her parents AND with me) based on the way she learns. I also found that I could brush up with the Skoove app if I want to purchase both.

Thanks for your review. Could you please tell which output will I need to connect an iPad for learning - USB to Host or USB to Device? I'm trying to choose a keyboard at the moment and don't want to make a mistake with this.

Have you tried pianonote? I've been teaching myself to play the piano for a few hours on the weekends the past few years. I can play basic songs, but really struggle with 8th and 16th notes or playing with both hands when the 2 hands are playing anything complex.

Hi Jeremy,
Great review! Very much enjoyed it! I have a follow-up question for you: Is there any app you can recommend that allows you to choose a song (e.g. Elton John's Daniel) and decide which soundtrack/channel (e.g. lead voice, piano, guitar etc.) you want to perform live on your piano while the song is being played? Thanks so much for a feedback. Best, Sash

I’m looking for the ability to simply see the notes on my device that I’m playing on my digital piano. I see lots of videos of pianists playing and what they are playing being transposed onto a device. Thanks!

I have to tell you that I find the lack of a whole bunch of contemporary songs to be a lot closer to what I want from a piano learning app, because so much of what has come out in the past 30 years……and I know I’m gonna insult some people when I say this…… so much of what has come out in the past 30 years has been total crap. Add in the metronome feature, and the ability to reach out to a piano professional, and I think that it’s going to be well worth the additional money without having to scroll through endless pages of Adele and Ed Sheeran just to find something that’s worth playing. I think David Bennett had recommended skoove, and I after your review I’m starting to see why. Thank you for covering this.
