There is something so lovely about using a dip pen, like you are connecting to history.

Dip pens are wonderful when you have put in the time to practice practice practice... All the old comic book illustrators used them of course before digital and the variety of line weights is wonderful, looking forward to your upcoming illustrations. Thanks for your excellent videos!

Dip pens in Japan's industry (anime, manga, and other's I wont mention ;-D) are used commonly and when it comes to hair motion (wind) flicks of the dip pen give off a more authentic look and ofc nice fine lines. I was lucky to visit capcom with colleagues and saw LIVE artists using traditional methods along side digital artists.

Man-o-Man I am so glad you are taking out your dip pens and may brave the addictive world of fountain pens! All of the pencil drawing I practice on from your YouTube channel are finished outlined with an FP. Boooo on too many plastics in our ecosystem earth. Yayyy for refillable cartridges and FP’s! Noodler’s Ink, as you know, has a large variety of inks that are not only different colors but different properties. There is a .pdf chart of all of the traits. In my own test of waterproofness (new word) my results were that indeed the bulletproof Noodler’s inks were H2O proof. A lot depends on the paper. I have used many nibs in my Noodlers (Ahab, Creaper, Konrad, and Neponset) but my favorite is still the steel flex nib. Someone of your talent could make those babies sing. If you have not already, check out the “Ink Need last Forever” channel of Mr. Noodler’s Nathan Tardif. (BTW I do not own stock in Noodler’s). Thank you for your vids and channel; drawing relieves stress and I appreciate you sharing your talents. Cheers.

Amazing work, I was wondering what brush did you use to colour the drawing with?

BTW, the potato tip is interesting. For removing machining oils from nibs and feeds I use homemade pen flush (50 ml household plain ammonia, 450 ml water with a drop or two of plain liquid dishwashing detergent). The ammonia takes away oils.

May I suggest a toothbrush and some dish detergent, followed by white abrasive toothpaste. Works for me every time.

The Pentel brush pen is a cross between a paintbrush and a fountain pen.

Im a Nip Pen user for Years and i love it, my Linework is softer, finer and show way more personality of me Instead of Fineliners.Fineliners are amazing for fine Patterns or when im not in the mood for my Nib pens. But its worth the extra work, also it takes a while getting used to it. Try to draw lines, circles, triangles and other shapes, until you fell good in how much preasure you need to add. I use Rohrer & Klingner India Inks, They Waterproof and very high in Pigments.I Love the Black, Sepia, Brown and Gold from them, the Silver sucks.
I also use Affinity Programms, they a real replace for Photoshop and Illustrator. Also i use Clip Studio paint Pro for Digital Painting.

I have a few dip pens, and a Noodlers fountain pen, but the micron style pens are so much easier to to use and carry. But it's nice to have both available.

Try a bottle of iron gaul ink. It is also waterproof and darkens when it is put on paper. One thing to remember is that it is acidic and best used with nibs that are close to time for them to be replaced or the acidic nature of it will ruin any of the newer nibs before their time.

dip & fountain pens are much more Earth friendly than throw-away plastic pens 😁
