Today we’re going to talk about what you may want to do at the first sign of a stroke.

Signs of a stroke:
• Numbness on one side of the body
• Confusion
• Loss of facial function
• Loss of arm function
• Loss of leg function
• Slurred speech
• Trouble walking

An easy way to remember important signs of a stroke:
*F.A.S.T.
• Face — Smile (Does one side droop?)
• Arm — Raise both arms (Does one arm drop down?)
• Speak — Repeat a phrase a few times (Can they speak? Is their speech slurred?)
• Time — Call 911 (you have about a 3-4 hour window to get them to a hospital)

A few things that may help prevent a stroke:
1. Fix insulin resistance
One of the most important things to do to help prevent a stroke is to correct your diet and normalize your insulin.

2. Consume a diet high in potassium
Potassium helps support the vascular system and may inhibit clotting.

3. Vitamin E (Tocopherols)
Tocopherols might be one of the best antioxidants to help support the brain and fight free radical damage.

4. Ketones (the keto diet, MCT oil, or exogenous ketones)
Ketones may support the brain.

5. Intermittent fasting
May support the cardiovascular system, the inside of the lining of the arteries, and the brain.

6. DHA (omega-3 fatty acids)
Omega-3 fatty acids may help thin the blood, repair brain damage, and protect the brain against clotting.

7. Garlic
May act as a natural blood thinner.

8. Exercise
May provide more oxygen to the brain cells.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy may help create improvements if you’ve had a stroke. This may help by forcing oxygen deep into the brain to potentially help repair it.

My father had a stroke, and I recognized it immediately. I called the ambulance, and he was at the hospital within 15 minutes ( we live close to the hospital). No permanent damage. I was amazed.

My brother-in-law had a stroke over 3 yrs. ago and he refused to believe he was having one. He is now permanently disabled and will be forever in a nursing home at the age of 62. His co-worker said he came to work and kept working even though he was showing the classic symptoms until it was so bad he could not function anymore so the guy he worked with drove him to the emergency room. He can't walk, talk or use his left side at all. So sad to see him this way. Now with COVID, no family is yet allowed to visit. He can't visit with anyone anyway due to the speech issue. I miss talking with him since my sister passed 10 yrs. ago. Thank you for this important reminder to take this seriously.

2.5 years ago my mother had a series of TIA’s. She would slur her words, stagger while walking and one side of her face drooped. As a caregiver to the elderly I know ‘FAST’, and she failed all but the Arms. I caught the stroke symptoms she was having on my phone’s video. The ER docs were so happy to see the recording! They wanted me to share it all around the hospital as it was profoundly helpful and also worked as a teaching instrument for residents and the like. My mother is fine and has no residual effects. Great video, Dr Berg, we all should know this.

Thank you Dr. Eric. I'm watching these videos with increased alertness. Back in June of this year I had 6 episodes and woke up to a wake up strokes through pure dire stress, mum has Alzheimers, and then 12 hours a day on my PC working from home over 7 years did not help. Luckily I survived this and now need to focus on every lifestyle change to avoid a relapse. Thank you for your channel 🙏

I had a hemorrhagic stroke left side. I was transported to the hospital quickly. I still have right side discomfort. The last 4 months with keto, intermittent fasting, and a daily dumbbell routine has really helped. My BP has been right on. I still take meds. It’s been 5 years.

I have had a few mini strokes and TIA's. I take Vit E and lots of cayenne pepper capsules too along with fish oil. Great video! Thank you Dr Berg. I refuse to take pharma's poison. - RN

My mother refused to treat her diabetes for over 3 years and ultimately suffered a stroke because of it. I'm glad I found Dr. Berg to help keep me from making the same choices she did.

It's not just FAST, it's BE FAST.

B – Balance: Is the person experiencing a sudden loss of balance or coordination?

E – Eyes: Is the person having a sudden change in vision or trouble seeing

My stroke started with vertigo so bad, I could not walk to the bathroom without assistance. I also couldn't focus my eyes. My experience was that it was like when a 32 mm film was not lined up correctly and was "rolling." I wish had known about this before I had mine.

One very important way to help reduce possibility of a stroke is to drink plenty of fluids so that the blood doesn't become too thick and hence is easier to clot. Dehydration is a common symptom in patients that suffer strokes. People with mobility issues may drink less fluids to avoid frequent trips to the bathroom and not realise they are putting themselves at risk of dehydration and increased risk of suffering a stroke.

very important to educate people on stroke emergencies. some people dont recognize them as such and go all day without dialing 911 and waste precious time.
