How the King Held the Brigadier by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - An Etienne Gerard Audio Adventure

Well friends, here we are with the fourth adventure from the swashbuckling hussar - Colonel Etienne Gerard.
This is by far the most exciting to date and there are some curious characters with singular accents!
If you remember, in the third episode Gerard is captured by the perfidious English and finds himself presently incarcerated in the gloomy prison on Dartmoor. You may be pleased to hear that the luminous hound of those environs does not put in an appearance. There is also (mercifully) no mention of the aromatic combustibles which pricked up the ears of our ever vigilant AI safety guardians at the Toob last week!
N.B. There is a curious phrase uttered in this story which modern listeners might interpret as saucy / close to the knuckle, especially if they've partaken in the canon of Carry On films and entertainment in a similar vein. However, I would aver that I cannot be held responsible for the corruption of modern youth (and their seniors).
In the spirit of fairness I did manage to raise this issue with YouTube and got a quick reply stating that the video did NOT violate terms and conditions, but they have yet to change its status. Will keep ye posted! Many thanks for your support with this slightly aggravating issue!

All comments, support, thumbs ups (and down) are most welcome.

By far the best narrator I’ve heard, God given talent!

What an entertaining tale! Greg’s talent with voices & dialects adds greatly to the quality of the production, while his narration is the equal of any of the most sought-after voice artists of today….

I never cease to marvel at ACD’s talent and his historical breadth of knowledge….To write tales—while gliding between markedly different genres (Detective, Supernatural, Ancient History, Comedy) — is a feat only a few authors have managed successfully….(As for Etienne, I think I’m beginning to fall for that bombastic, early Gaullist :)

The perfect combination of author and storyteller. Really enjoying the Brigadier stories. They were totally unknown to me before, but looking forward to the next instalment!

Huge fan of your work and voice. would love if you would consider doing Sir Walter Scotts complete 26 volume Waverley Novels, Emile Zola's complete 20 volume Rougon Maquart cycle. Guy de Maupassants complete short stories and Balzacs complete 91 volume The Human Comedy. I know its a lot, but those works never have had a professional narration. It would definitely keep you busy. Keep it coming man !! Thank you.

I'm sure so many are enjoying this series!. Conan Doyle, whom I have rather late in the game discovered, is such an incredibly talented writer, that it's hard to imagine he was also a physician!! I mean I can't imagine Stephen King also being someone who practiced medicine, can you? Wouldn't want him removing my gallbladder.
Just
unbelievable.

However, and that said... And it being October and all....
May we please have some arcanely good ghost stories, as well??? Not to seem greedy~it's only that my Halloweeny soul simply cries out for spirits spooks, misty spectors and the ever rising musty cadaver, or three!! I can't help it, it's completely involuntary, right around the 28th of September it inevitably begins!. It feels like my subconscious understands what season it is and I find my senses all reaching out for the likes of Tubular Bells, John Carpenter's theme from the original Halloween film, the 'tasteful' Halloween pillow slips go on the bed, the lighted B E W A R E sign hangs from the mantle and I am wildly craving those little candy corn flavored pumpkins!!!(I hope you have them in the UK, they are too good not to be everywhere!!)

Anywhere, here's hoping you yourself, could possibly be of a similar mind??
Excited and delighted thanks in advance, if so!! 🎃👻🐈‍⬛🌃

The Brigadier cast a steely eye over his assembled dinner guests, their faces eager with anticipation as a young, newly commissioned hussar asked him: "Which battle gave you the most satisfaction, sir?"
The old commander placed his goblet down and motioned with his finger for it to be refilled.
"Why the battle of You Tube, young sir! In the fall of '24 it was. Yes, they dared cross swords with Brigadier Gerard, the fools. They made the error of challenging ME - over an innocent word made coarse by their utter ignorance of its actual meaning! ONE word mark you - from the rich and abundant store of my matchless vocabulary! Ha! For a short while they had their way, but I fought as I always do - and won - as I always do!For the hussar who capitulates while he draws breath or can grasp his sword is not worthy of the regiment. So yes - my answer is - although not the biggest battle I have ever been in - it was certainly the most satisfying. Why, they are fortunate I did not choose to employ other 'F' words in my last tale, for a hard-living hussar keeps many a ripe unit of useful language in his arsenal to win the day when required, let me tell you! A man should be able to speak his mind freely, not quiver and quake on the altar of fear. Heed these words, my young lieutenant - and who knows - your career in the light cavalry may - one day - be as glittering and magnificent as my own - though of course I highly doubt it."
And they all cheered: "Huzzah!" and drank another toast to the inimitable Brigadier Gerard, who would always stand up for what was right, for his personal code of honour would have it no other way.

I love ACD, an Englishman, describing the English from a French perspective.
