Dodge has announced the resurrection of the Viper. The only problem is there will be no V10 engine. Replacing it will be either a normally aspirated or supercharged V8. Will Dodge succeed in changing the format of their once mighty halo car? Will the faithful Viper owner's accept it as a Viper? Watch and listen to my vlog as I discuss the ramifications of this decision.

I am excited about the V8 evenly apposed cylinders always sound better than odd. You had a great commentary and history of the Viper as a 43-year-old it was greatly appreciated.

You hit the nail on the head Joe!The horsepower wars for me are getting out of hand. There's so much more to a car than peak horsepower. It's history, character, style and "feel" is most important! Thanks for the great reviews Joe.

Not at all a mistake. A mistake is all other supercar and exotic brands falling for the SUV craze.

Keep that viper style body and if not a v10 then a light weight all aluminum super charge engine set back for a 50-50 balance. Nothing will touch it!!

Honestly I think dodge should keep the V-10; develop another more powerful one to keep the spirit alive. However American V-8s have always sounded better than the raspy V-10 of the Viper. Now if they can manage to pull the torque numbers and dynamics of the V-10 they may have a winner. Or even make a newer V-10 avaliable for the enthusiasts. I personally say hey let's keep the Viper. It's always been my dream car since 92. And yes the GTS is the best one hands down. Sidepipes or not. Great video brother!

I think they should stick to the V10 that’s what made that car special holy moly I would love to see a V10 Dodge Viper mid engine coupe.

Imo the only way a V8 viper works is if it follows the F1 model of short stroke and high revving, Say 660hp 9, 000 rpm. If it is just the same engine from the existing SRT/rt line up it's a fail.

Remember that viper show in the 90’s!!!

A twin turbo 426 hemi would be fine and if the hp would be over 800, we Viper lovers would get over it. However, a Viper is first and foremost a road course car and a supercharger suffers from heat soak on road course racing so a supercharged V8 engine would be a flop. A lower HP, naturally aspirated V8 doesn't make any sense at all. It would merely be a downgrade from the V10. Of course, appearance is equally important but I have faith in Dodge when it comes to this since they have never made an ugly Viper.

I hope they don’t dump the v10 and if they do replace it with a bigger engine

If they add the v8 line up with the 8 speed, it'll be faster if its hellcat powered, cheaper, better mpg, lower maintenance cost, sound better and better balance. Not one downside.

They could always put the helephant engine in it. That would take the sting of no v10, Otherwise put the V10 back in it and sit a supercharger on top.

why do we think they would actually give away their plans years in advance, of course there will be a V10, it is just that they will probably expand the platform for various offerings and configurations, meaning v8 engines.

Ik this is an old clip but still great

Dodge Viper ( 2022 -23)
Two options

Demon hellcat engine
Hellephant engine

Manual & yes automatic transmission
( prefer manual ) but automatic 10 speed is a tad quicker

- that’s all I ask from dodge

The original Viper was THE CAR that got into cars when I was five. Ever since then I've been a big Viper guy (I'm 22 now). However, the V10 is the Viper's defining feature. I'm ok if FCA makes this car, but they SHOULD NOT call it a Viper if it's a V8.

Yes they made a mistake, they need to do right by this car and leave it alone. Meaning get it right and allow it to live on instead of taking it away and bringing it back. This is the second time this has happened.

I don’t mind but they have to make it more noticeable like the challenger more commercials gotta show it off tbh

some things most people say about a viper bother me so here are some facts. The vipers v-10 is lighter then any modern hemi v-8. 5.7 weighs 590lbs the 6.4 and hellcat are even heaver the last v-10 was 500ish lbs the original was beastly though at 700+lbs. although the first gen viper was also the lightest at 3200ish lbs curb weight. The viper is traditionally rear weight biased or nearly even weight distribution this is due to a "front mid engine design" due to the majority of the v-10 sitting behind the front support pillars and is why the hood is so long. The viper acr does hold the record for a true manual transmission as all top holders are with dual clutch. hemi v-8 are great motors but very heavy and ill placed in my opinion in a true sports car you know cause of the corners.
