I cried a lot during this movie and that is very rare for me. In this scene, I cried when Stephen was dreaming about picking up the pen for the girl, when Stephen looked at Brian and when everyone clapped for Stephen. This was a truly wonderful movie.

My interpretation- He imagined God wouldn't paralyze him if there was one. So then he imagined God being real and if he was, he would be able to walk; just as he imagined
