Helvellyn & Catstycam via Striding & Swirral Edge 15th May 2018

A walk from Glenridding in the Lake District to Helvellyn. The walk goes up to Birkhouse Moor before heading over Striding Edge to Helvellyn. I then descend Swirral Edge before going up to Catstycam. I then return to Glenridding by taking the paths beside Red Tarn Beck, then Glenridding Beck. Distance is around 7.5 miles

Very nice film Eddie and a lovely traditional route up Helvellyn. I hired a guide over the May Day weekend (Alan METALMAN) to take me over Striding Edge and down Swirral Edge. I’m glade I did as the weather completely closed us in with very limited views but Alan led me safely throughout the day, I’d recommend him to anybody a bit nervous of tackling such extreme ground. You certainly did very well indeed, hats off to you. ⛺️👍

Great Video. The cairn seen on Birkhouse Moor would appear to be the obvious top of the fell, however I believe the highest point and true top at 718m is the cairn (not shown) on the path beside the wall near where you stopped on the video at 3:06 to indicate the edges, Helvellyn and Catstycam. I enjoyed watching you cross Striding Edge until you played Free Fallin and Comfortably Numb lol.

Well, that was quite a hike! Almost felt dizzy myself at times, and I'm glad you're careful when "striding" along those edges. It's a long way to roll down! Thanks for the effort holding the camera  - it would be so much easier without it. Thanks for taking me well beyond my confidence limits!
