A fraction is a way to represent a part of a whole. It’s made up of two numbers separated by a line. The number on the top is called the numerator, and it tells you how many parts you have. The number on the bottom is called the denominator, and it tells you how many equal parts the whole is divided into.

Example:

Imagine you have a pizza that’s been cut into 8 equal slices. If you eat 3 of those slices, you’ve eaten 3 out of the 8 slices. This can be written as the fraction (3/8).

Numerator (3): This shows how many parts you have (in this case, the slices you ate).

Denominator (8): This shows the total number of equal parts the whole is divided into (in this case, all the slices of the pizza).

So, (3/8) means "3 out of 8 parts.

Types of Fractions:

1) Proper Fractions: The numerator is smaller than the denominator (e.g., (3/4).

2) Improper Fractions: The numerator is equal to or larger than the denominator (e.g., (7/5).

3) Mixed Numbers: A whole number combined with a proper fraction (e.g., ( 2 1/3).

Fractions are useful for describing parts of a whole, comparing quantities, and performing calculations in both math and everyday life.
