I have a theory. MK12 is a reboot and will be the first game in a new timeline and it’s coming out 11/1 to match it.

Theory: MK 12 considers the first ending to MK 11 canon. Liu King, as the new keeper of time and protector of Earthrealm, is guiding the great Kung Lao to victory in the first tournament. Kronika is reborn in a weakend state, and must call on another threat to destroy Liu Kang and restore her place. Enter Onaga, the Dragon King.

So the ending where Liu Kang selects Kung Lao as his champion after rebuilding the timeline is canon. This is definitely going to be the new beginning of Mortal Kombat.

2023 is the year of fighting games. Street Fighter, Tekken, and Mortal Kombat are all getting sequels.

This will be the most competitive year for that category at the Game Awards. Usually it has a clear winner due to the lack of games. I think Jump Force was nominated one year.

the trailer starts at 9 which is an Allegory for MK9 which is where the "New" Timeline started. It stops at 11 and then shifts to 1. in MK11 Fire God Liu Kang travels back in time to the very beginning of the Timeline to the First ever Mortal Kombat Tournament.
