Accidentally locked myself out of a new bike lock trying to reset the code. Followed the first couple of your steps and was able to get the key partially in. Kept turning the tumbler until the key engaged. Thank you! I was about to give up!!!

Absolutely brilliant explanation...so clear that I was able to successfully reset a new cable lock that I accidentally reset last night but didn't realise that's what I had done! None of these techniques worked on my bike lock bought from the dollar store. No gaps to move around between the cylinders. 😲

After trying for what seemed like forever to open one of these locks, I cut it apart to discover that the the internals were frozen and the plastic rings were spinning free without actually changing anything.

I have actually had 2 similar locks over the last 10 years or so that actually had a 0000 combination

0000 is also a combination, so it's 10.000, not 9.999. Ring = dial, key = pin,
