DISCLAIMER:
I realize this not a clinically accurate Lens comparison. There is many variables at play that make it not 100% perfect If you would like a more techincal review video please watch CVP's video they are the best at it.

Killer vid! Sad I missed the test 😭.

Dying to see the Nisi’s vs Arles.

I do think these look great overall, but can’t unsee how busy and ugly the broken is compared to the signatures. The signatures are just so smooth and the DZOs are distracting in comparison.

Great value kit.. Arri's clearly more neutral, sharper and more detailed in blacks and highlights as expected... dem flares on the Arles are a bit out of control lol. But I'd say 90% of people couldn't notice a difference in 90% of usage cases, most limitations only come out in the extremes. For the price... totally worth it.

Thanks, Cody. Funny, the first time I watched I was only in HD mode. Couldn't see much of a sharpness difference between the two. But watching in 4K you can definitely see it. The DZO's are impressive for their price point, I'll agree. Breathing seems minimal. Very comparable image to the ARRI's. Haven't seen a review like this yet. Really appreciate you doing it.

Amazing work Cody - and cool to get to see them next to the signature primes too - they hold up really well. Still debating whether to pick some up and replace my vespids - will be getting in the B set to try at some point.

Whilst it’s ok to compare lenses on YouTube videos, it’s important to remember that due to video compression the footage ends up being very similar and the finer resolving power of high end cinema glass isn’t really factored. What’s amazing is that these lenses are somewhat affordable for consumers and do a very good job as cine lenses with great performance overall. I wouldn’t expect them to match a set of arri signature primes and honestly that doesn’t matter. What’s most important here is that equipment is available and affordable for everyone (almost everyone) to use and make work with.

I’d pick up a set of Arles for my commerical work and perhaps use them in place of Arri Signatures - not because they’re better or even close in quality, but because I could afford to buy them and begin making some income from them in rental.

Honestly, I've watched quite a few comparisons with Arles lenses, and this one is by far the best. I don't know whether it's the Alexa, the Signatures or simply the simplicity of the comparison. Great video!

Amazing DZO. The only big difference I can appreciate is how the SIgnatures colors look more neutral and balanced while Arles have a bit of Cyan.

Thank you for taking the time to do this test. I was just talking about doing a test like this to my friend. I like you can care less about charts. Great job on this.

Wow the Signatures are so very well corrected. Almost to a point where UP look like a toy (a lot of people compare Signatures to a UP progression for LF when they were released). Fun thing to note is that Signatures have different bokeh character when shot wide-open and stopped down a tad (to a 2.4 or so). It was made on purpose to add some character of someone wants it.

I do own some DZO Arles and do notice it's subtle quirks here aswell (some CA on wides). They tend to hide CA in a slight out of focus areas, but it's subtle and the hue isn't bad at all (something like blue or cyan). Some people say that Arles remind them of Tokina Vista series, they def. have less contrast and pop than Arri UP, but I love it. To me they have a style of their own in terms of contrast, color rendition, flare, focus fall-off, and it's good.

Arles look bangin. Can you confirm if I curl them a few times a day I'll get arms like yours?

I saw a beautifully shot film titled "Close" that used the Leitz but looked extremely similar to the Arles. Compare the DZO Arles with the Leitz Summilux-C if you can. Best.

Nice comparison and thanks for your thoughts. They look very close to the vespids but sharper. The stills looking closer to the Arris but the focus fall off in movements is different, I like the Arri or the Tokinas more, to be fair they cost also more. The Tokina Vista primes have also a similar look, my favorites, but they cost 3 to 4 times more and are heavier, which is a issue for smaller productions.

The Arles are very
nice...but those signatures....I can immediately tell the difference...as it shoud be.

Cool vid. Would be great if the side by side were in sync. They seem to be toe to toe in IQ after it’s a character taste/need for the flares. I prefer the Arles but in some cases these flares could be too present. If you shot a doc with night scenes etc… the dzo might have too much flare all the time
