The C-HR comes initially with two hybrid engine options that will be familiar. Namely a 1.8 liter engine with 140 hp, or a 2.0 liter engine with 197 hp.

The 2.0-liter version offers a 0-100 km/h time that's almost two seconds quicker than the 1.8 — 8.1 seconds versus 9.9 seconds — but actually the two cars feel much more evenly matched on the road.

Both machines have a bit of a problem with noise. Toyota has significantly improved the performance of its eCVT automatic gearbox, but still allows the engine to pick up and maintain those revs when accelerating.
