Thanks for helping to shed light on the importance of greyhound adoption.  Absolutely one of the most loving dogs in the world.

Racing dogs are not trained to chase small objects. They were bred for thousands of years for this trait. This video shows a dog unwilling to go into the box, not a dog unwilling to chase. I've owned 6 greyhounds (along with cats), and not one of my greys wouldn't chase a moving object out of sheer joy. Yes, they are wonderful pets and gentle giants, but please don't mislead potential adopters into thinking they will not chase a cat, a small dog, or anything moving, if the situation calls for it. IT is to their credit that most can be taught the difference between a family member and and object of prey.

Adopting a greyhound is a great option, it definitely was one of the best decisions I've ever made

My dad said I can get a dog, I now want a grey hound. They are gentle creatures who deserve to be apart of a caring family. You saw how gentle he was toe little kitty, right? I also am disgusted with the trainers, im un-proud of being a human because of the sick things we do too animals.

I had a recue Greyhound and I got him when he was 3 years old. To see them run for fun is a magical moment, to run because he wanted to. In the 12 years I had him I never had a growl from him and my 2 sons grew up with him and he was part of our family and our friends loved Becks too. But cats and small animals- rabbits. It was a no no .. These are hounds - If it runs they will go for it, its their nature

Let's not be naive here...they are still dogs. A breed of supreme hunters to be exact. They aren't "forced into acts of physical violence", they see it as hunting.

Living conditions for greyhounds vary greatly between countries. Although the conditions portrayed in this video may be true for Australia or Japan, they are a rarity in England, which leads the world in Greyhound racing and adoption, and the US.

It would be nice to think that abuse of greyhounds is a 'rarity' in the UK and Ireland. But it's clearly not, though to be fair, many owners now make the effort to retire their ex-racers to rehoming centres across the British Isles, and some racing organizations also make efforts to highlight the need to adopt retired racers; and for this they're to be encouraged. But it's a fact that the UK/Ireland still ship off huge numbers of greys to the East where the dogs are destined for illegal dog-racing and human consumption. And pure statistics alone surely begs the question of what happens to the numerous pups littered to every breeding bitch which aren't registered and somehow just 'disappear'? To say nothing of the mutilations, killings and abandonments that make up weekly news stories across the country. The industry is a hell of a lot better than it used to be, but it's still profits before welfare in the main. It's exciting watching them race, but knowing that even a small number are abused, drugged, brutalized, and will be destroyed young or dumped, rather takes the fun out of it, don't you think?

I am worried that when all grayhound racing is banned the dogs will get intermixed with other breeds and the pure breed Grayhounds will be a thing of the passed

I love greyhounds and they are superb companions - but PLEASE don't lie to people about what they are. They have been selectively bred for centuries to chase small furry things and they will all do it, some more than others. Nobody should EVER assume that one will be fine with their cat etc. without checking first.

That's so sad... If we keep doing this, Greyhounds will be extinct.

Live baiting my retired race would've been impossible - she's frightened of rabbits!  (Real ones, anyway - give her one made of synthetic orange fur, and it's a different story...)

Well, I surely hope this is not going on in Australia still. It's disgusting and evil.
