some advices:
stay at one spawn location, use addon silver dragon, try to get info if Time-Lost Proto-Drake (or Vyragosa) got already killed.
Spawntimer seems to be between 6-22 hours, other sources say 4-8 hours after body of TLPD or Vyragosa despawns (Vyragosa can be skinned, make body gone immediatly)

Hello, (WARNING long but precious comment)

As a veteran hunter of this proto I will give you all I know about it and bonus information that might really help you all :

1 - I can confirm spawn timer were 6h to 22h back in the days, They changed it for 2 to 8h with latest wow extensions.
2 - Others video on youtube speak about 1 proto spawn for +/- 15 Vyragosa, it is not the case with classic edition, It is more like 1 for 8.
3 - Rumors about early spawn are in fact true :
Back in the days ->> the sooner I've seen was ~1H30 but it was the only time in months of hunting.
More "often" the shorter spawn was 3h. But keep in mind it was also quite uncommon. So for you mental health don't bother to much about it ;)
4 - Add ons like silver dragon and Rarescanner are a must have BUT the only thing they changed in classic is that you must be real close to the beast for it to trigger, or having them to cross your pointer.

Tips and tricks :

First of all, if you really want it you must be totally committed to hunt this proto. .

- Respawn timers are always counted in hours, the spawn will never change minute wise. unless Vyragosa or proto are not insta killed and flight freely for some time.
Ex ; Proto spawn 12h04, insta killed not skinnable so depop 12h34 ->> one rare will spawn 18h34 for a 6h timer delay
Ex 2 : Vyra spawn 12h04 insta killed + butchered, spawn will be 18h04 for a 6h timer delay

- Knowing that, try by all cost to get one spawn time info (dont trust ppl, take your own info) and you'll be good. it is crucial really
- I strongly advise to have a char to butcher the vyragosa body asap because you'll keep the info for you if your alone and then become the leader of spawn timer ;)

- The most regular spawn times are 6H and 12H, stick to it for your math as other timer will be quite uncommon. ( common spw time in order : 6h, 12h, 9h, 22h, 18h and 3h/1h30)

- If you do semi afk farm, try to position your flymount close to the spawn point (not into it) on the filght path, then move your camera to an other flight route from an other loop and put your pointer on the middle of it (to trigger addons)

- Vyragosa and proto are mobs that you can see from longer distance than others, so there is a trick to watch over the best 2 camping spot (Cascade and frozen lac) but you'll have to fly fast 280% min and its an active camping.
Just find a flight path that make you go from on point to the other. It is the better way if you are on a session with not a lot of hunters, if its full of ppl then its your call.
I had two proto like this so for me its a proven method.

And last but not least be freaking patient, if you find fishing boring irl then forget about proto hunting.
being unfairproof is a +, if you hunt well but on crowded server you will find dead proto or someone will kill it in front of you.

Also I have so many data because I suffer handicap that force me to stay home most of the time so it was easier.
I managed to kill it 5 times, 3 from old wotlk and 2 after changes, making friends and family happy xD
The time record to catch one was 4 Days, the longer it tooks me one month and half~
Now Im am hunting on classic, and sharing this help me spend the time !

Spawn timer should not be 2-8 hours, and the spawns should be different as well, I have also read information about this rare but I think this information is for RETAIL WoW, not this classic version of WoTLK.

Hopefully I am wrong because apparently it’s a 8-72 hour spawn timer, and that really sucks.

There's 20k people on my server, 2 layers, 8 total spawn points. It's cutthroat. There's a group of people who know the last spawn/layer, if one layer is loaded with people and one deserted camp with someone on the busy one. Ive seen video saying 2 hour min, from what ive seen it's 10-20+, average 12 hours usually 10-14. Two hours is completely insane. Saw vyragosa 13 times, 14th was TLPD, took ~120hours. Very busy server
