As someone who has shot on 16mm before and graded it in davinci, I think you guys are pushing the look a bit too far. It may come down to taste here, but if you want to actually emulate the film stock instead of created a final graded look you should tone down the entire thing by about 25%. You can tell in a lot of these clips the the colors are getting too saturated and clipping (probably because of the 8-bit footage) and the shadows feel lifted. Film CAN look like this, but in actual movies the look is not pushed this far so that it is easier on the audience's eyes. I see this a lot with digital emulations where the colorists push the look farther than it should go to overcompensate for it being DSLR/mirrorless footage.

Saw the 11+ minute length of this and seriously got excited! I struggle mightily and flip flop with my a7iii picture profiles. Sometimes I feel like I do a good job and other times I feel like I know nothing, so I'm eager to see your process. Keep up the fantastic work!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've been trying to figure this out for weeks and getting all these ugly artifacts trying to use this power grade. I was worried I was filming improperly and this fixed the issue.
