A brand new game, a brand new engine and a Lego Star Wars game with a huge scale and scope. How does the new technology hold up? What's the story with PS5, Series S and Series X versions? What about last-gen? Oliver Mackenzie has the answers.

I would love it if you looked at the previous gen & the switch versions of this game.
It's quite impressive how they managed to preserve the game's amazing visual on the weakest systems

I also disagree with the environment complaint, legos are supposed to be played alongside realistic environments because they are toys, they are not an alien lifeform so a world of legos should be represented to be mixed with realistic environments, like they are being played

I played so much outside with my lego that i love the detailed environment mixed with lego :) reminds me of playing in the real world

I disagree completely about the environments. I love the blend of Lego with realistic environments

I'd like to add that the Ewok Village on Endor has really, REALLY bad screen tearing issues, sometimes with multiple tears happening on the screen. Playing on PS5 with the 60fps mode. I'd be interested to see if it's that bad on other platforms.

I personally didn't have any issues with the Lego "clashing" with the IRL environments. In places like Jakku, it's like a kid left their Lego in a sandpit after playing outside for the afternoon and it works really well.

You completely forgot to mention the screen tear which is quite frequent on PS5.

I find it strange that Digital Foundry didn’t mention something as widely talked about in the very bad screen tearing. On my PS5 I found that quite a few spots throughout all three trilogy’s have issues with screen tearing and for them to not mention it is quite strange. Still a great video as always!

No mention of the horrible screen tearing on PS5?

The screen tearing is fairly bad on the PS5 (multiplayer)

Weird that screen tearing isn’t mentioned here, even though it’s present briefly on the performance graph at 8:09. I’ve been experiencing pretty bad screen tearing on PS5 in denser areas in the 60fps mode

I'm completely baffled that the abject screentearing on PS5 isn't mentioned. It's really, really bad. Even my wife, who is not technical at all, mentioned how terrible it looked as she was watching me play. I see a lot of frustration over it on Reddit as well. It completely ruined the experience for me to the point where I ended up returning the PS5 version of game and got the Xbox version instead. Are you playing the retail build, Oliver?

The first thing I said about the backgrounds was I felt like I'd taken a handful of Star Wars Lego into the garden, I think the blend of Lego and Organic environments works perfectly.

Totally disagree about the environments not matching up with the Legos. Prior Lego games were like this as well. I also wish you had discussed the frame rate issues in some areas like Endor

No mention of the Droid Factory level?
A UI element in that level has the game effectively be rendered twice and therefore cuts FPS in HALF.
...come on, you need to call stuff like that out.

The fact that it can run on a 750ti shows how flexible the engine is.

PS5 has a lot more issues beyond the pretty sizable hits to resolution. Should have bought the game for Series X but I’ve seen so many multiplat titles do well on both consoles, I was sure this would run great on PS5. Screen tearing, massive resolution drops in later episodes, audio bugs with massively increased volume in some areas, and random crashes make me REALLY wish I had just gone for the Series X version.

Especially since it hurts to hear it’s practically locked at 4K in both modes. Kicking myself hard.

I think they should introduce a "stop motion" mode where everything is updated at 60fps except for character animation which would update at 30 or 15 fps. And then also enable per object motion blur. I think that would look cool

I’m glad you covered this title, and the analysis is thorough and well-presented as always. I was a bit disappointed to see almost no coverage of the PC version, however. I’m getting a new gaming rig in a couple days and was wondering if there was any advantage to playing this on PC as opposed to current-gen consoles.

What?... the PS5 version has terrible performance in multiple easy to find areas, not just in the cutscenes, e.g. Uscru district and the droid factory on Geonosis in Attack of the Clones, just to name a few, drops to the mid 40s, also the image can become very blurry at times and don't get me started on the screen tearing, doesn't seem Oliver really tested the PS5 version thoroughly enough.
