Simply the best car I ever had, comfortable, secure, and limitless ...

Why were BX's so great? Take it too London park anywhere and just adjust the suspension to it's lowest. Then watch the traffic wardens fail at putting a car clamp on it.

In my books an older French car that hasn’t rusted away is one that’s full of character and stories to tell of where it’s been and what’s it’s done in its life. But you’re totally right with the progression though, cheap and cheerful then onto something JDM and onwards to the Germans.

I worked at Citroen when the Bx was brand new and have owned around 10 examples 😊

I owned a BX - 1.9 n/a diesel TXD hatch - K223 DDP. Only car I have ever regretted scrapping. It was slow but that XUD engine was bullet proof and while it did sound like an old tractor, it was part of it's charm. I loved it's pillowy ride, the steering, the on/off brakes, the almost lack of body roll, the suspension that could rise and lower on demand but most of all, the seats. Comfiest seats this side of a Swede!
RIP Rene the Pink Blancmange!

Had 3 of them! 1985 1.6, 1988 1.9 GTi and a 1989 1.9 petrol estate, the most comfortable cars ever! Quirky and wonderfull!

Iconic design - the last of the line of Citroens that had creative design and didn’t conform to the generic design language that pretty much made all future cars dull and souls less

I had a 1.9 diesel (non turbo) and then the GTi. Still the most comfortable cars I’ve ever owned. My Dad bought the diesel off me and remained a Citroen owner for the rest of his life. (Xantia, C4) ❤

My headmaster had one of these back when I was at middle school. They were always just a humdrum family hatch back in the day but when you consider how different and quirky they actually are there is certainly quite a charm about them. I also think they actually look quite good too.

Well as a current owner of Citroen C6, XM estate, CX 25 GTi Turbo 2 and a SM, don't limit yourself to a BX... :)

My first car was bx hatch I loved it and lots of room in the back which was very handy when I was 18 and still lived at home

The hydraulic suspension on these and other citroens was litterally like nothing else on the road. My father worked at a citroen dealers in the 80s and 90s so we grew up with several bx's including a lovely GSA, the older brother to the bx. Many fond memories of them i must say, including driving through a flood around 1990 with the gsa, we were followed in by a beige toyota i think a corona or similar, and right in the middle it died!! We came out the other side and just dropped the xar back to normal ride height and with a cheeky toot"toot" drove off!! 😂 I should say it was a very busy road and their were plenty of people about to help the now silly stranded toyota driver but memories like these never fade!!

Cheers from Sweden! I am a fan of italian cars but my uncle had a BX when it was new, and I remember that I loved it. Have always had a fascination for these cars

There was a time in the late 90s I had a Gti 16v, my father had a 1.6 estate he had tuned by a guy who used to tune touring cars, and my sister had a 1.4 all at the same time, our road on a Sunday lunch was full of BXs

BX & Xantia are such legendary cars. I miss the Citroën brand, it stood for something really special.

Your child looks suitable unimpressed at the car struggling to start

If nothing else, the advice on rear facing seats for non-isofix cars is damn useful. Lots of high end luxury cars and performance cars even in the 00's didn't have isofix as standard (Audi apparently charged hundreds of ££s for it as an option back in the day). I feel kind of old that a car that I rode in as a kid is now an every-day-classic...

Knew a guy who did pizza deliveries in central London in one of these, back in the 90s. Literally sped up for speed humps, that suspension can take a LOT of abuse.
