A little tip for making massive free growing farms. If they have multiple block levels, line them with stairs(cobble stone generally looks best) this serves two purposes: 1. Prevents spawned mobs and players from breaking the farm at night by dropping on the farmed blocks 2. It looks a whole lot neater.

For the smaller farms, if you place hoppers under maybe 1/3rd of the farmland leading to the barrels, you have an efficient and aesthetic automated farm.

I'm gonna build a nice village for my villagers. I'm gonna use a variety of all wood, because as nice Spruce is, I just think everyone overuses it. Birch and dark oak are really nice, as is cherry. Crimson and Warped planks are REALLY good for roofs.
