How to Connect to MySQL in VS Code and Run SQL

Are you running VS Code and want to connect to a MySQL database? You can do this within VS Code.

In this video, I'll show you how to install an extension, connect to a database, run some SQL, how to avoid common issues such as the "max idle time NaN" error, and how to create a database if you don't have one.

That was a really cool video Ben! In fact I was not aware that - we can use an IDE tool to manage or manipulate data from a DB. I am new to it anyway, and I was thinking that IDEs in general are for Writing Code, not doing other jobs.

With this video I have learned that to manage a DB you don't necessarily need the appointed DBM tool to manage the DB, but it can be done via an IDE also, with the proper extensions of course.

I do it smooothly until Step 2/3 (as 8:40 on your video).

I have "TEST CONNECTION" and it shows "Successfully Connected". But after i click the "SAVE CONNECTION" button, there is no connections appear on the left panel.

Have you ever thought about writing an ORM? One of the biggest issues I see in current ORMs is that they smell like developers created them, for the most part. Complex queries are so difficult with ORMs, yet so easy with raw SQL. I've never had the time (crazy as I've been a software engineer for more than 30 years) to really tear an ORM to pieces to find out why some of them are so terribly inefficient. Curious if they are simply badly designed and breaking some basic rules.
